Maytag Dryer Idler Wheel Part #

Can I get just the wheel, is it removable?
I see the arm and wheel for sale (pn# WP31001710), but haven’t found just the wheel.

It is removable, but you will probably need a new retainer clip to reinstall.

Well “the guy” did say it needed a pulley...
turned out he meant the motor pulley...
which are stupid expensive btw.

The first pic is what the pulley on the dryer now looks like.
The second pic is what the parts diagram for this machine calls for (wp31001535).
Third pic is what’s left of the old part, soft and flimsy. Btw, you turn clockwise to remove.

What gives? Dies anyone know the right pn#?

I went ahead and ordered the part thinking it is an updated design. Buyer comments at Amazon said it looked different but was much stronger than the original part.
I also got a new belt (old one broken) and a roll of felt as one of the drum glide felt pads is missing. With a roll of adhesive backed felt I should be good for awhile if I see this type of machine again in the future.
The lint filter housing was as filthy as I have ever seen, lots of moisture in that lint.
Over all it seems a rather flimsy design, will be happy to shift it ASAP.

Thx Martin. Actually the idler pulley is fine, see last post(s), it turned out to be the motor pulley.

I would never brother rebuilding one of these dryers, this is one of the products that put MT out of business.

Because it is gas AND because it looks more contemporary than some others, I should be able to sell more quickly and for more $ than better machines...like a Neptune dryer, or a Dependable Care.
Gas WP/Kenmore are the standard around here for traditional heavy duty machines. This Nortag says “Heavy Duty” on it (see first pic) but now I know better.
I get most of them free when I deliver a machine, they want the old one gone. I sold the guy I got this one from the same Nortag design, just a little newer. I got that gas machine for free trading for an old but nice top filter electric unit I had, that was hard to sell for a fair price because of the dated styling. It was a landlord that needed an electric machine ASAP, so he took the old (late 80’s/early 90’s) Whirlpool top Filter with wood grain accents and all!
People really don’t get how crappy most of the new stuff is, the control panel on this thing is like tin foil.[this post was last edited: 4/25/2019-19:09]

Wow, that was a pita!
All buttoned up and running fine now, but it gave my some headaches on the way.
Two important tips:
Remove approx 10” brace between drum tower and fan housing for easier (though blind) access to belt idler pulley for belt install.
And do as the guy in the video says, turn drum counter clockwise 3+ rotations to seat the belt.

For ** free** only will I take another of these.

New belt, new motor pulley, new felt under drum glides, and lots of cleaning (I buy ‘goof off’ in spray cans now) and this one is ready for a new home.

**Bonus points for anyone that can guess the vacuum under the green handle peaking above the dryer control panel**[this post was last edited: 4/30/2019-15:28]

Well the dryer just sold, fast like I hoped....and look what is now in plain view, two of my favorite vacuums (of probably near 200) and a pos vac that crumbles to the touch (literally) that I plan on dumping soon....any guesses on which is which?
