We've just moved into a house and found a white vintage Maytag dryer in the basement (and still hooked up). I've tried to use Google to track down a little information on it but due to the model number, I'm a bit stumped (apparently it's also a Maytag part number - lucky me!) I don't have a picture to post, but it's a Maytag DE702. The patent label on the back lists a dozen or so patents it may have been made under, ranging in patent years from 1958 through 1962.

I'm hoping to find out the actual year if anyone on the forums knows.

I found that the light on the "dash" works, and while it dries, the actual timer wheel isn't timing. It does "ding" if I turn it to the off position. Is the timer something difficult to fix?

Thanks in advance for any information anyone can share with me.

The timer may be OK - try setting it for 30 or 40 minutes and let the machine run for at least 10 minutes. If it still doesn't move, then there may be a timer issue...
I have a DE701 that I thought had a dead timer, too; turns it out it didn't when I did the above.
If you can post the serial number here, one of the Maytag experts will be able to "decode" it and give you a date of manufacture for your dryer.
These are sturdy machines - you may want to do some work on it (clean it up and re-oil the drum bearings) but it will be worth it!
