Maytag Dryer need help

Found a GDE309 that is clean and in good shape.

It seems all MT dryer timers are a turn and push-to-start scenario?

This timer turns fine, but doesn't push. I haven't connected it yet, as I don't have any cords. Wondering if the timer can be rebuilt?

MT DRYER TIMER PROBLEM ?

It might be a timer problem or it might have a loose or broken timer knob, pry the center cap off the knob and see if the nut is loose under the cap, you should also remove the nut and take the knob off and see if it is broken, the plastic knobs MT used were on the cheap side and often would break  causing the dryer not to start and otherwise making the dryer difficult to set the desired cycle.

I think you're on to something there. The knob turns, but it doesn't seem like ..... it wobbles a bit, and it doesn't seem like its sitting on the spindle correctly.

removing the dial and timer.

It seems everything here is fine. I thought there would be a spring under the knob.

I either need to carefully take this timer apart and see if it can be fixed, or get a new one.

I don't have any answers for you on how to fix the timer.

However, I just had to comment on the incredible condition of that dryer! That is in incredible shape for an approximately 40-year-old appliance!

There should be a spring underneath the dial. Do you have any electrical testing equipment? A multi-meter would help. Trace the power from the plug through the machine. There should be a schematic on the back of the control panel cover. There might not be anything wrong with that timer. It could be one of those thermostats on the blower housing.

Once you figure out where the problem is, you should probably take that thing all apart and give it a good cleaning, oiling and check it for any mechanical problems.
An air compressor is essential.

There may be Maytag Dryer Service manual in ephemera. It looks pretty sharp.

Just re-read your post. If the timer is stuck try to take the motor off of it and see if you can get it moving. I know this sounds crazy, but if all else fails try soaking it in a pan of kerosene with a little dab of non-detergent motor oil mixed in. Try and operate it while submerged. Back track. Before you spend the money on a lot of kerosene and oil, try spraying it with silicone spray and blow it out with and air compressor. That might get it moving. The good thing about the kerosene treatment is it cleans, will evaporate overnight and leave just a light coating of oil. The silicone and air treatment is good to start with just to see if it's worth the extra cost of the kerosene treatment. I've got a lot of timers and switches working that way. Works on sewing machines too.

I can't take any credt.

These appliances just smile pretty whenever a camera is near, except the KA which is "Miss Ellie" demure.

Even my coffee color Maytag washer is warming up after coming out of the low part of it's life. He's in recovery and with good nutrition, and a shot to cure that little infection we won't talk about, he's doing well.

There's other pretty people (shhhh, they like to be thought of as people, but we know better) that haven't made a splash yet, through no fault of theirs. It's I who hasn't processed the pics yet.

Oh darn, I'm not worthy of their presence.
