I normally hang at least my bedding when weather permits, however, the last two weeks it has rained almost constantly.  There was a break in the rains on Saturday, April 1, so I changed the beds, washed the sheets and was ready to hang them out when I noticed it was starting to cloud up again.

Deciding to save myself the bother of hanging them then having to go get them when the rain started I threw them in the Maytag 5000 (Duet twin) dryer.  Pressed the power button, everything was fine.  Pressed start and bzzepft.  It threw a F01 code and was dead.

F01 is a deadly code, but hope against prayers called the repair center on Monday.  Since I bought the set from them I had priority so they were out yesterday, Tuesday.  The tech did all kinds of diagnostics checked every sensor and fuse.  Nope the F01 was correct--main control board.

They don't carry that part, had to order it, it should be here today, but you have to pay in advance for special order parts.  If that part isn't the one that fixes the problem, too bad, no refunds.  After trip charge, diagnostic charges, and pre-payment for the part $406.35.  They are supposed to be back to install tomorrow.

For some reason I feel if I don't get the dryer fixed, it will never stop raining.  I somehow think this is Whirlpool/Maytags way of getting their money back when I got the dryer free when I bought the washer.

Not always but very often the F01 is caused by a "blown" solder connection somewhere in the motor power circuit on the board. If you remove the actual board from the white plastic housing you will usually see a big black spot on the housing where the failure occurred. Have repaired hundreds of these by resoldering through the years. Of course this is not the "by the book" repair but it fixes it like new.
