This DW has been for sale for a long time on Kijiji, about 1.5 months now. I am curious, and the more I think about it the more I want it. Price seems kind of steep, but I am willing to bet this person would negotiate a fair price as it has been for sale for a while. But my main concern isn't the price. It's that stupid recall for the rinse aid dispenser. I don't know if it is 100% affected by it yet, and I can't see a green dot on the model/serial plate. I don't really care too much for rinse aid anyways, the soap I use has it built in (Finish Powerball). I would inspect the machine after I got it to see if everything is gung-ho anyways.

So what do you think? Should I snag it up even though there could be a recall?

NICE!

My favorite dishwasher was my DWU9962AAW. MANY years of faithful service, with just one control board replaced. Quiet, washed very well, always predictable results. Reliable Intelliclean system, flexable racking and warning indicators for every thing from low rinse aid to a blocked washarm. And SILENT! Just an awsome d/w. THEN...

Maytag issued one of the MOST STUPIDLY HANDLED recall campaigns ever. They would fix any affected model from the BOL to NEXT TO the TOL. The 9961 and 9962, however, were deemed non repairable and traded out for bol tall tubs. This was insulting as these d/w's were not cheap and now you were offered a noisy, crappy bol. I've STILL not ever been offered a logical excuse for the policy to NOT provide recall kits for them and will most likely never find anyone at Maytag/Whirlpool with the guts to try. Grrrr...

Sorry... A VERY sore subject... I loved my Intellisense 9962 if you couldn't tell... OK, Off the soapbox for now...

You might get lucky on this one in two ways. Either this one was lucky and fell outside of the affected range (very precious few DWU9962's were able to escape) or if it is in the range, the previous owner *might* not have used rinse aid in which case, Maytag might send you a 'cap' which permanently locks off the rinse aid tank from being filled, thereby keeping her legal... I'd go for it in a heartbeat if you could get the model/serial and run it on Maytag's web site to check her fate first. Good luck!

I'm going to go take a look at it tomorrow. I think I will pick it up regardless if its an affected model or not. I just won't use any rinse aid, and ill inspect the wiring for cracks and wear before I run it. Wish me luck!

Used

I have never met a Maytag dishwasher I didn't like from the first upside down system to the latest.  Every one has been dependable and clean very well.  I have been looking for an older Maytag or Kitchenaid in Washington and Oregon state and they almost never come up.
