Maytag electronic stack washer dryer
Who knew?, This was the only way Maytag made their stack washer dryer when it was introduced. In 1987. They were all electronic. They didn’t even introduce the cheaper, electro mechanical one until around 1990
There is still tons of these out there we still service them on a monthly basis for customers, they were a little more troublesome than the mechanical ones, but they were quite versatile for what they were allowing up to a 20 minute wash cycle on the normal cycle for example extra rinse on any cycle and of course electronic dry control on the dryer.
When the electromechanical one came out, they mimic these features. The dryer did have electronic sensor combined with a timer and a 20 minute wash cycle was available which is what Maytag should’ve had all along on their standalone washer to improve their cleaning of their mediocre agitation .

IIRC, all those electronic stacked agitator sets are 1-speed, Fabric-Matic for delicate.

I had the electromechanical version when I lived in Tampa. My only complaint was the dryer capacity did not match the washer capacity.

Hi Phil, how did the dryer capacity not match the washer capacity, the dryer is considerably larger than the 13 gallon tub in the washing machine. That’s a complaint I never heard from anybody and we’ve probably worked on more than 1000 of those machines.

I never seen one of those Maytag stacked sets before in person, but I imagine the dryer is just slightly smaller than the full sized SOH models but otherwise is about on par. That only way I could see the dryer “not matching the capacity of the washer” is with smaller loads (true with any dryer really) or very large loads of laundry (trying to dry 2 loads of laundry crammed in).

The dryer was just over 4 ft.³, the 16 gallon washer tub is probably just over 2 ft.³ so it’s about the right ratio. Usually a dryer needs to be twice as large as the tub at the top loading washer.

If the dryer is that smaller could it be mimicking the Halo of Heat, and thereby designed to dry one smidgen of that wash load below at a time?
Or do you get up a clothes-line and supplement your drying equal to the wash you've done there...?

The dryer was smaller than average.It dried well wit the electronic sensor. Always had to dry smaller loads of perm press items to avoid wrinkling.
My sister had that same model tucked in an alcove in the bathroom. It was delivered and installed and immediately threw an error code. Replaced the boards and she used it for years after with no problems. She never said either washer or dryer had a capacity problem and that it worked fine for her.

Worked on one this afternoon in the Watergate condos in Northwest Washington next to the Kennedy center.
33 years old, this is the fifth repair that we have done to it, these machines are good money makers, because people tend to repair them because they’re expensive to replace, you really have to go to a 24 inch stack because it’s usually the only machine that will fit in the space that these occupied as most front loaders have gotten too big even the 27 inch full-size stacks are too big because they’re much deeper.
This one flooded the hallway because the hose from the water pump to the outer tub just came loose at the outer tub fell off completely. She said she would replace it if she could get an identical replacement. Instead, we fixed it again. Previous repairs were two inlet valves, a blower on the dryer and an idler pulley on the dryer and the rubber thingy in the inlet air. Gap was replaced as well.
