the ad reads:

"This Maytag dryer was in our home when we moved in. We have no use for it and would like to move it out. It IS in working condition and in good shape for its age!! It uses 120V and has a gas hookup. Asking $40 Call Bret 890-3036"

To the untrained eye, looks like a TOL pre-Halo-Of-Heat model?

The Craigslist is from March 11, 2011. I do not know why my Picasa put Dec 2010 on the collage, sorry

Pass the gas

This would be a 740c dryer (1956/1957). Besides the visible gas shutoff valve through the cutout on the back panel, the trap door on the top panel is a dead giveaway for these early Maytag gas dryers.

Electronic ignition, unlike the standing pilot 741c HOH dryer that replaced the 740c. Matching washer would be the 140 or 140S AMP drive machines.

Thanks for correction. I saw the gas shut off valve, but the perforated drum and trap door on top really threw me for a loop. I'm not familiar with these ancient models as they rarely ever pop up.

OLD MT GAS DRYER 740C

These older style MT dryers were better performers than the later MT HOH dryers by a long shot, they not only had electric ignition system, much larger drum and a more effective lint filter. The biggest fault was the blower was not as durable as the blower as in the HOH dryers. Someone else should grab this we already have two of these, I don't want to be called a hoarder LOL.

This model was check-rated by CU in the mid 50s. Unfortunately the early blowers were aluminum and started howling. The machines used a 3" vent. They were replaced by Bakelite blowers. I even have a spare NOS in the box heating element for the electric one.

I thought the drum looked fairly good size.  Looks like the HOH was a step backwards as far as I can tell based upon what Tom has said about these dryers.

Not a condensator

This dryer is not a condensator, as I can see a 3" exhaust in the bottom left corner. I imagine the blower in this model must be whisper-quiet if in good condition.
