I'm not very Maytag savvy, only had a couple before, and can't for the life of me remember how I bypassed the lid switch. I know I've done it somehow before -- tried today with my 407, but no success. I hate forbidden cycles and jury-rigging clothes pins, etc. to keep the switch depressed. Am cleaning this up (along with matching dryer) to be the daily drivers in our new house. Any advice is welcome! Thanks.

I am guessing it is the same as my 84 LA511 with the switch right below your timer dial. I ran wire around the back of the switch to hold it open and wound it around the drain hose to secure. Lid open works fine, goes off balance lid hits the control dial and shuts it off. Not that I would ever leave a major appliance like that running when I am not home.
