Maytag is a Speed Queen

obviously a Raytheon rebadge...….but if someone told me Maytag slapped their name on one, I wouldn't believe it....

their asking 255.00 for it just the same....sometimes curious, why only selling the washer?....no other ad with the dryer by itself....

been my experience when they do this, theres something wrong with just the washer....

I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong but I believe Amana was bought by Maytag not long before being bought by whirlpool in 2006. I remember some Amana machines that went to a Maytag Atlantis style seal and transmission for maybe about a year or two. Those seals were failing faster than the previous ones that Amana had at the time. Then whirlpool bought Maytag absorbing the Amana brand as well and turned them all into whirltag/maypools and scrapping the Maytag and Amana designs.

DNA origin story

There were some of these Amana/SQ dryers made with the Maytag brand on them to match the Dependable Care line. Don S. has one in Minneapolis. These were around the early oughts, before WP bought Maytag. Amana was acquired in 2001 by Maytag. Last genuine Dependable Care washer rolled off the Newton line in '06.

I remember these AmanaTag washers coming in behind Lowes, many around 1-2 years old. It only took a swipe of the hand or glance under the machine to tell if it's seal was bad, many had leaked water into the transmission and oil was all over inside the cabinet.

When we were at the Jasper County museum in 2003-04(?) the docent/gossip told us that she knew people working at the Maytag plant and there were whispers of bad parts coming in from Mexico. The supervisors knew the parts were poor quality, but had been ordered to use them anyway. Desperate times for Maytag back then.

Yeah. I know of a 2003 Amana that barely lasted two years before the bearings were shot.

Yup.
Looks almost exactly like our Amana, which I found out from y'all was essentially a Raytheon Speed Queen.
Ours has been great for the +/- 9 years that we've owned it.
