I had a former co worker call me today his dad has a model j2l maytag wringer washer he told his son that he would like to see it go to a good home I told him about the red controls vs the blue. he wanted to know what would be a fair asking price if I wanted to buy it he is going to call me back with more details but I wanted to get feed back form my fellow club members. If you can look at it first, then you know what you are getting into. Perfect working and looking order is obviously the highest. Not scrap prices. I paid $50 for my Maytag wringer that still works perfect and does not look like it sat in a barn.

I'd agree that it depends on the machine.

$50.00 is a great price for a working machine that still looks good. So you have to see how it looks, how does it run, that it doesn't leak, is it a pump or gravity drain machine, can you get the agitator off? If it's mint I'd go as high as $150.00. They have lots of these on Ebay that the seller is asking upwards of $400.00 But at that price they stay there for months and don't sell. They're either hoping to find a sucker of don't have a good understanding what these are worth.

I got a real good deal on a wonderful working machine. Red on outside and black agitator that lifts off easily. I have a storage shed that I can put it in with a cheap laundry tub and drain into the woods (no worry about phospates), now I just have to figure a way to get water from the lake to it. Hand or pool Pump? One goal for this next (hopefully) longer summer of warmer weather here.

Another thing to check . .

Look at the left rear leg for any signs of oil/grease. Once water has started leaking into the power unit, there will be some transmission oil displacement through the vent hole and it always works it's way to that left rear leg shaft. A lot of the old machines have that and most of them will still run for a LONG time before you have to tear the power unit down. But if that leg is still clean, you have either a very well maintained or low usage machine and a washer well worth a few extra bucks!

$100 reasonable for working condition ...

I paid $100 for my E2LP (1977 model) in excellent condition, both mechanically and cosmetically - found on Craigslist. At the time, the E2L model was the top-of-the-line, more expensive than either the J or N models.
