Please let me know where I can get a replacement door seal for my Maytag Dishwasher and if you have tips on getting the bottom of the gasket to stay in. It's the model MDB4409PAWO serial F22914837. There was a small leak so I took the door seal out to clean off soap scum hoping it would let it seal better but the seal is dried out. Also, when I put it back in I couldn't get the bottom edges to seat properly and there's some extra length that pops up. Is there a trick to reinstalling it or a caulk or glue that would help?

This isn't the worlds best dishwasher but it came with the house and cleans decently on the heavy high temp cycle and is still working well except for a small leak from the door seal.

Thanks! Matthew[this post was last edited: 4/30/2018-12:57]

I'm pretty certain these are designed that way and you never really noticed.

I know that both DW that I regulary use (both Bosches though) have seals that do not sit in a slit 100% of the way.
I think that is so that water running of the inside of the door is guided away from the corners.

Crappy looking door seal

The old seal is not bad, these seals do not dry-out, it may be covered with minerals because you are using the wrong detergent [ read too cheap ] for your water conditions, you can take it out and soak it overnight in Lime-away it will be good as new.

You can glue the seal in a little if necessary and if it has stretched you can cut a little off at the bottom.

Thanks for the comments

Did check Amazon but not Ebay and Ebay is cheap but can be hit or miss.

I bet it is designed like this and I never noticed.

The gasket does look crappy and covered in soap scum possibly from using a natural detergent like Method Free + Clear. Suggestions on better detergent?

Will try soaking in Limeade or would soaking in a mix of vinegar and water achieve the same result.

And yes most problems are caused by operator error.

Better Detergents

First of all what are your water conditions ? and how dirty are the dishes when the DW is run ?

The white stuff on the gasket is NOT detergent or soap, it is minerals, straight vinegar might remove if you soak the gasket in it, but you will probably find a stronger mineral dissolving solution will work better-faster.

Generally if your water is harder than just a few grains of mineral content you need to use a very good detergent like Cascade Platinum pods or Finish Powerball Max -12 tabs etc. Put one in the dispenser and fill the smaller part of the dispenser with what ever you are liquid or powered detergent you are using now.

Note: If the dishes are dirtier when the cycle is run you will probably get better cleaning results compared to rinsing first. Acids like tomato, orange juice, salad dressings, marinades are good, as are sugars that help act as a natural water softener, and oils protect the DW and YOUR dishes from excessive etching damage.

On the contrary

If you often prerinse or dishes are less soiled in general (or you often run partial loads), searching for a good powder could be an idea.
Same if you have particulary soft water.

In general I heared that gels don't work as well as powders.

Idea being that pacs/tabs have to suit a wide range of conditions and might end up being overdosed.
A powder then would allow for simple adjustment of dosage.

But as those are most likely mineral deposits, underdosing-conditions are more likely.
Also, if they really are mineral buildup, it might be worth to run an empty cycle on a verry hot and long wash with some descaler (preferably something citric acid based). Just be carefull to wait for the mainwash to start before you add the agent.
