Maytag Laundry Factory Home for 100 Years Closes for Good

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

This is a dark day for all of us here. I am nearly in tears! I was lucky enough to have toured Plant 2 in Newton. I was there for the Maytag 80th anniversary celebration in 1987 when Jesse White helped fill a time capsule that was buried there in Newton. My last visit to Newton was in 2003, just before I left the Mainland.

There was a time when it was said that Newton, Iowa washed the clothes of the world. (sniff-dabs eyes)

Yikes!

I remember all the posts about how horrid it would be if the Chinese bought the company, how Whirlpool would be a better choice, etc.
When are we going to wake up an learn that big business doesn't give a , well you know, about the workers and shareholders?
Maytag died because the young, dynamic managers were not supervised by the owners...and too many Americans have abandoned their unions, believing all the christianist and Republican crap which has come down the line.
Wake up and smell the coffee folks or all the middle class jobs will soon be gone.

If I never see another Maytag, it won't be too soon. Maytag sucks. I'm sorry for all the employees that lost thier jobs due to poor quality contol and design and above all, all those pinheaded CEO's at Maytag.

It'll be even sadder when they close the Dishwasher plant and make all the dishwashers with Whirlpool modules :-(
I know this is at least a few years away since the current Maytag dishwasher platform is fairly new.
But we all know it's coming next.
