Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I don't Think Maytag Ever Owned Goodman

Goodman owned Amana for a number of years and built SQ style washers and dryers for residential use.

These Amana, MTs and even a few GE labeled washers and dryers were very similar to current SQs but had a variety of reliability and performance issues that Alliance built SQs have not had.

Amana-tags = Goodman bought Amana in 1997.  Goodman sold Amana appliances division (not air conditioning*) to Maytag in 2002 ... which resulted in Amana-design laundry branded as Maytag.  Maytag, of course, was sold to Whirlpool in 2006.

Norge-tags = Norge/BorgWarner --> Fedders --> Magic Chef (1979) --> Maytag (1986)

*Maytag-branded HVAC is currently produced by Nortek/Nordyne.

I will re-read those! Complex history to get my mind around no doubt.

Did Amana continue to operate independently under Maytag just contracting appliances to Maytag or did Maytag reorganize Amana just copying their design?

I love Speed Queen replications like Amanas, Maytags, GEs and the like. I wish Kenmore could have done the same. Basically Speed Queen's modern design improvements but with Kenmore features like a DA, Ultra-Clean, grip knobs, ect. If GE had switched to the Speed Queen design instead I wouldn't be anywhere near upset. The Speed Queen design is not at all bad, this I know, how much better it is than what became dominant.

I believe you are correct, the service manual I found online in Appliance Junk's Google drive is labelled as "Searcy"

The tech sheet's wiring and cycle sequence is nearly 100% identical to the AWN311, AWN412, AWN542, ect. Very little has changed between what was produced in 1990 vs 2016.
