Maytag...Meet Frigidaire!

Hey folks,

Thought we'd share some pics of our recent finds- This is Ben's A702 we brought back today from a second-hand appliance store. It has the original backlight bulb, Ben just tossed in a new starter for quicker lighting. Once we get a drain hose we'll cart it downstairs and hook it up- good authority says it's in working order. Inside? Clean as a whistle! Ben is curious as to the year- is it a 64? or a 65? A702 209428QZ says the plate. BTW, love the Rinse Temp control on the top of the console! Ha!

And here's the '62 Frigidaire Electric Dryer I rescued from way up in Northern Minnesota. It's not in too bad a shape, and has a drum light too. Cool!

These are beautiful! They both look like they are in good shape, the 'Tag should have a date stamped on the timer, if it's still the original, that will give you a good approximation of when the machine was assembled. I've never found any serial-dating information on Maytag, if anyone knows, please share it!

After all these decades, I still can't get past the simplicity and grace of a Maytag washer! Simply breath-taking!

If WP comes out with the Maytag Dependable Care engineering again, I may have to snatch one up..or who knows maybe a vintage one eventually. ..

'Tag Team

Austin, I plan on using the '66 A806S and the A702 together, when I find a house. I will be using a DE806 dryer, and now in search of a 702 dryer as well. Guess I'm collecting backwards on the Maytags...next stop, a '57 AMP, and/or an A142.

God, I love living in Maytag country.

Hi Ben and Cory, What a beautiful pair of vintage machines you have found. The dusk picture with both of them lighted in their glory was fantastic. Sure makes one wonder why in the world they don't use console lights today. Thanks so much for sharing. Can't wait to hear how they work. Terry

Those are some really fine machines. The lights on that Fridgidaire really light up the room. I wish they would bring back the lighted control panels too!

I mean many people still have their washers and dryers in basements for petes sake, where the lighting is not the greatest.

I wish manufacturers would start putting the lights back on these machines. I guess not enough demand and the fact it would cost todays manufacturers too much money.

Hey Ben and Cory, thanks for the great pics. The lights sure add a touch of drama and flair to the appliances. You take great pics.........did you have to do much to either of these to make them work? They sure are beautiful!

No work, yet...

All we've done is clean them up, and plug'em in. This was the first appliance I actually paid real money for. As soon as I saw it in the store, I knew it was too good to pass up, as nice as it was. Cory faired out well w/ the dryer, the salesmen said, "if nothing for it is too much for you, then you can't have it," or something to that affect.

I will replace the belts on the Maytag, and possibly put a newer water valve in it for insurance. We didn't have 220v on the dryer last night, just 120v to one leg to test the lights, motor, etc. We think the dryer will work just as fine when full service gets attached.
