Hello fellow Maytag fans,
New guy here, hope you can answer a question. I'm restoring a Maytag model #32/33 wringer. My question is, is it possible to install a single cylinder model 92 gas engine on this washer? The gas engine originally installed on this washer was the twin cylinder model 72. I had read somewhere that any gas engine could be installed on the different wringers models. I have two model 32/33 wringers to work with and a model 92 gas engine. The engine is special to me and prefer to use it. My family owned a Maytag dealership from the 40s until the early 70s, this engine is the only relic I have from that era. The model 92 engine is too tall to fit between the base plate and the bottom of the washer. I appreciate any and all help, thank you.

Well, I can't advise on your question, but this is kind of weird.

I was just wondering today with all the recent wringer restoration threads why we didn't have a member with the handle "Dead Wringer" and look who shows up.

Welcome. I'm sure you'll get some answers from the wringer fans among us.

Looks like it's possible to install 82/92 engines on the later metal platform gray ghost wringers.

MAYTAG the "Grey Ghost", what a great name since they never die!

Contact the "Maytag Collectors Club" looking at their sight it could help with the gas engine questions.

Better yet visit Lee Maxwell @ www.oldewash.com, largest collection of home laundry from the beginning of time to the last ones produced until 1970's.

He is author of "Save Womens Lives", history of washing machines. Outstanding book, beautiful photos of the machines. We all need a copy in our reference library.

Thank you for the responses to my question. Unfortunately the wringers in the above mentioned videos are earlier models (#30 / 31). Identifiable by the wringer gear box and control handle. The Model 30 / 31 used the Model 92 engine. I have read that three different fuel tanks were used on the 92 engine, long frame, short tank (deep) and short tank (shallow). Currently our 92 engine has a short tank deep and is too tall to fit between the motor mount and the bottom of the wash tub. How much shorter is the other fuel tank and would this allow the #92 engine to fit the #32 / 33 washers?
Thanks again!
