Maytag Model WU600

I Finally got my first dishwasher. It's a model WU600 from Maytag.

Ok now that you've stopped giggleing. It really is my first washer. A friend bought a house from 1961 and it had new appliances. When looking throught the garage we happened to find all the old kitchen appliances. One of which was an old Maytag. Of course I decided to put it into my 1960's trailer as an upgrade.
(pausing for more giggles)

I hooked it up outside to see how well it would function (if at all) and was surprised to see the little red light blink to life. Motor appears to be in excellent shape, no rust anywhere on it. seems to work perfectly. Untill the water starts pouring out from the front. then the side...then the overflow that's 1,2 way up the body. Seems that the water fill won't shut off. I remedy this manually and find out that the machine cycles beautifully. everything else works. and then it will not drain either. I'lll probably spend the next few days pulling off the valves on the drain to see if it's a simple mechanical issue. but if it needs replacing, where might I find the parts, and a good diagram. I'm not even sure it will drain with the incoming water flow cut off as a safety feature so the drain might be working and i just don's know it.

I really did try the search function, but when it returned no finds on "maytag" I knew that was not going to work. I skimmed the titles and found nothing on model 600 at all. Any help you might have time to spare to give me would be most appreciated.

Just returned from outside opened the door and got some steam! Yeah! heating element's working as well.

When the timer pauses in between washing (circulating the water inside the tank) and drain, does the motor come back on briefly to pump the water out? If not, you could have a bad timer. This could also be a problem for filling, although that may be a separate issue. Check to see that the drain hose and the port on the pump for the drain connection are clear and there is no clog or other obstruction for water to move through. For the never-ending fill, odds are, you have a bad water valve. If the valve seems to be working OK, you'll have another problem with the water level sensor & switch. There is a diaphram pressure switch in the bottom of the machine, under the stainless steel figure-eight cover. If you remove that, you will see it (round black rubber disc in a stainless steel frame) on the bottom right side of the tank. Check to make sure it's moving properly up and down, not torn or leaking and that the two wires on the micro-switch under the machine attached to the diaphram are connected. You can check continuity of the switch itself with a simple multi-meter.

One of these should be the solution to the water valve issue - keep us posted!

Thanks for the replies. I won't be able to get to it until this weekend now but I will be sure to include pictures. Even the words on the buttons are completely intact. I'm not a washing machine buff, but even I realised it was a great find. My friend's still got the matching (I think) oven. Any idea what one might go for? I'll try to get the serial number sometime this week and post it with some pictures as well. Hopefully this will be a simple fix, and I'l try what you've outlined first. If it's lasted this long in as good a shape as it's in I might be leaving it to my kids in their will. I think this was back before they knew how to engineer failure into the mahines so you'd have to buy another in a few years.

Just found out I have a hard freeze coming throught the area tomorrow. If I remove the valves from the bottom so the water can drain will this be safe outside(in a large covered carport where I did my testing) Or if there some water that stays trapped in the housing for the motor or somewhere else that will crack?

I would make sure all the water is out, or put a little RV antifreeze in the pump & sump areas just to be sure. Pump parts for that machine are long NLA so you don't want to risk losing it.
