I am just wondering if anyone could tell me why the agitator in my Maytag wringer washer model N2L keeps floating up in the water. It usually occurs just after the end of the wash time when I have shut off the agitation and have wrung out and removed most of the clothes, but the machine is still turned on (knob is pushed in though)and the tub is still full. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

Hello

If you are certain that when you install the agitator it "snaps" into place as I am presuming happens, then, I would wonder if the O ring may be gone or worn. The agitator must snap down when you put it on the post. Just my opinion and idea.

Thanks everyone. I don't see any o ring there and my agitator definitely doesn't snap into place so that must be it. I'll contact Phil about getting one. Thanks again.

You will

like doing business with Phil. His prices and shipping rates are reasonable and he has just about anything you need. I am very pleased with what I have purchased from him. Good Luck !

It's also possible your ring has worn to the point that it's flush with the rest of the agitator post and you can't see it by just casually looking. It is located toward the bottom of the post. I would assume it's still there - just worn down. Take a razor blade or sharp knife and cut it off before putting on the new one. When it's removed, there will be a horizontal groove all the way around the post. Then just stretch the new stop ring over the post and down to the groove.

Thanks for your help. Phil does have the part and I will be ordering it from him but your advice about scraping out the old ring, if it is there, is helpful. Thanks again!
