John is right . The PAV , MAV, and SAV Maytags were real stinkers.

Neptunes were bashed because 1) Maytag's marketing of the "new frontloader" brought them to strong consumer attention and 2) the class action lawsuit related to mold/odor ... which, go figure, is still a problem with prit'much every washer on the market due to a) the push for ice-cold washing and b) continuing user bad habits.

the wax motor needs dissasembled to insulate the disc and the plastic clips break easily-i glued my wax motors back together with a dab of silicone.I think the dispenserwax motors are lower risk than the much more moisture exposed door wax motor.IF further protection for the control board is desired a 1/2a Picofuse(these are size and shape of a 1/4 watt resistor) could be added to each wax motor circuit. If the control board triacs get blown,the fix is easy
The inlet valve on my Neptune would sometimes seep at times-leaving standing water,but that has not happened for a long time.I can't think of any startup after long storage problems that could occur except possibly the stretch-on belt might thump and slip for a while.

I've had a Neptune MAH7500 for about 20 years. It's a work horse. In retrospect I wisely got the extended warranty, and sure enough before that was out, it needed some major repair. As I recall, the big drive wheel at the rear had cracked. Replaced free of charge. Has been trouble free since then, although it's possible the belt needs replacing and/or the motor moved to tighten things up a bit.
If I'm not mistaken, the 7500 doesn't have wax motors; it uses solenoids instead, and those have never failed. They are a bit loud, though. Of course I might be wrong, and I'm too lazy to go check the manual about it.
