Help Support :

a craigslist buy a neptune top loader for 50 bucks looks new the guy says it gives a error code for off balnce sometimes jsut got to try and see its a very neat machine
any feedback appreciated

good girl

i ran the neptune hooked up on the back of my truck and did 3 loads of clothes no error signs so far so good love this machine spins out almost dry less dryer time

The clutch pack is not hard to replace. There are instructions floating around cyberspace. I looked around here & I didn't have any handy.

I forgot to add that the reason you didn't get a code on the back of your truck is that the washer probably wasn't loaded with clothing. When loaded, the discs rotate backward just a little to far & gets the clothing all outta wack & the it'll go off balance.

Ron,
Thanks for the picture of the machine. It has a beautiful deluxe style. It's the first time I have seen one. Thanks!

Interesting inside, all those spinners and big plates and shit to go wrong. Are they trying to avoid the front loader, which does the same thing. Seems to me a redundant manufacturing, either you go top loader or front loader.
I don't think top loader high efficency washers are here to stay. They try to please everyone and they do it poorly because you cant create a machine to please everyone, it is dumb marketing.

I have had my hands on a few of these. I replaced an off balance sensor on one as the terminal board had some corrosion that didn't allow the signal to the main board and as a result the default is the error code. Also using a nonconductive grease to seal from any corrsion is a good preventative measure. The other off balance problem occurred after the customer had it for 9 months. We changed the off balance sensor and clutch to no avail. The Maytag service rep strongly suggested the customer start using HE detergent. They bought HE Tide and the problem went away immediately. The customer called me that night and was so grateful to have the problem resolved. Something about the timing of the pumpout and boyency of the clothes with HE detergent caused the problem where the clothes were too high in the tub when the high speed spin begins. A lower center of gravity gives the most stability in spin out in any top load washer anyway. Maytag probably would have produced this washer longer but customer complaints of tangling and vibration issues caused them to shutdown the factory where they were produced I think in Florence SC. People became more educated on HE top loaders and they quickly sold out. Now that Maytag is Whirlpool I don't see them coming back as Whirlpool has a surplus of washer designs and has dropped the Dependable Care , Herrin products and the Original Neptune.

I don't know the details, but HE detergent doesn't oversuds in the low water applications of FL and and HE TL's. Can't go wrong with Tide HE... also try purex, it's cheap and not HE, but it doesn't make a lot of suds.
