Maytag Neptune washer and dryer

I bought my Neptunes the first year

of production the MAH 3000 models and have never had one problem with them. From what I have gleaned in reading those first machines made in the first 6 months of production just run and run and run!
I really like my washer. The dryer is good too but no one makes a dryer as well as WP!

Our Local Maytag dealer has the Amana badged washer and dryer.

Hey guys
I was trying the new washer and dryer out this evening and counted 14 lights between the washer and dryer. It looks cool at night when the laundry room is dark. This is a very different washer and is so quiet. I can only hear the sloshing of the water as the clothes drop into the suds and I love the sound of the machine when I used the max extract. Sounds like a jet engine reving up.

Hey Rob...what model did you get? The models I have are have a touch screen display. I think the washer is MAH7500aww. Mike.

I've had the MAH 4000 series since 4/8/99. Despite it's bad press, it's been working flawlessly. As for the washer, the only noises are the clothes splashing in the water and the high spinning in the last spin cycle. And it does a real warm/hot wash that stays that temperature for each load. The dryer, although a rattle trap sometimes, gets clothes dried in one pass and we have the option of turning off the Press care cycle on the Permanent press.

Last year, we moved to Boston, we left the machines behind for the renters to use. We used the Kenmore 80 series washer and the "Elite" Dryer. Boy I'm so glad to be back to the Neptunes. The washer located upstairs was so loud, you can hear as far away as the living room or the office downstairs. It didn't have the "Anti-unbalancing technology", so you had to strategically load jeans in properly or it would shake the entire house. And it had Warm on the ATC, but it would be tepid after each load you do. Same goes for hot.

The dryer was anything but elite. Aside from being a rattletrap, it took several passes to get a heavy load a jeans perfectly dry before moving to the wrinkle guard cycle, which can't be shut off.

Been happy to be back to the Neptune ever since.

Maytag Neptune washer and dryer

You guys are more fun. The model number I got was mah6500aww and the dryer mde5500ayw. I have never heard such a quiet washer and the dryer sounds very much like my old 806 dryer. I checked the door and it still says Newton Iowa and made in the USA. I will bet that won't be there much longer! I wiped the door seal dry and left the door open last night per advise from you guys on the forum. Thanks

Bleach Recommendation:

Hi:

The manual says to run a bleach load once a month because there have been mildew problems with Neptunes. The problem has been greatly decreased since the door boot was redesigned, but FL's seal very tightly (as they must to keep the water in). That promotes mildew if some chlorine bleach is not used periodically. Leaving the door open is an option some owners follow. Your new Neptune will have the redesigned door boot (the old one did not allow water to drain out of it; the new one does), so do not worry about that part of it. TLs seldom mildew because there is not a tight seal when the lid is closed; air can get to the tub and agitator. Even then, rust can be a problem on TLs left wet in humid environments.

Just do what Maytag says and you should be fine.

latch, wax motor, rear bearing?) Always been tempted by the
Neptunes, but can only afford used and would want to avoid
potential problems.

Replaced Maytags with GE Adoras

I just last week replaced a MAH4000 we bought when it was a year old. I had replaced the door lock wax motor and replaced a triac and resistors on the board (I do electronics mostly) that the bad motor blew, three years ago. Then about a year ago it stopped filling any hot water, likely another dead triac, maybe a bad valve. about a 3 months ago the drum bearing started making that dieing sound during spin. So I didn't want to spend more money on this pig so I chucked it. The dryer was a LDG410 LP gas from the early 80's. No complains about it really it out lived two washers. Lately the auto dry mode didn't work likely a temp sensor.

We replaced these with GE Adora's the deluxe models with the water heating. Only big pain so far is the darn door on the washer can't be reversed! I have a weird setup and the maytag's door was easily reversed. Its a bit to soon to make any comments about how well they work. They are quiet though and have glass doors
