I have a question about the tub water capacity of Maytag top-loading washers that came out of the Newton Plant.
I know that once Maytag adopted the "helical" drive transmission in the 50s those machines had a designed tub capacity of 16 gallons.
In 1966 with the introduction of the "Washpower" automatics, the tub size on the "large capacity" models was increased to 19 gallons. The "standard/regular capacity" machines remained at 16.
At some point in the 1990s it is my understanding that the tub capacity on the "large capacity" machines was increased to 20 or 21 gallons. What year did this happen? Was it introduced with the "load sensor" agitator?
I'm just a curious Maytag freak here. Thanks!
