Maytag Performa (Amanatag) Tranny Question

I have a Maytag Performa thats only about two years old ,it even still has the protective film on the control panel,I know it's an Amanatag and probably not worth fixing,it will drain and spin but wont agitate, it makes some noise but the agitator doesn't move,it has a 10 year warranty on the tranny,but only for parts,not labor,two dealers I talked to, one Maytag and one Whilpool said they don't do trannys,the Whirlpool dealer was rude and said if he did work on it it would be about 375.00,I now have a real Maytag,a Dependable Care from the 90's, but would still like to fix the Performa for a second machine,There is no sign of water or oil leakage,Has anyone had any experience with this model,I looked it up on Sears.com parts and they had the tranny parts listed,but not the complete assembly,I haven't torn into it yet,just thought I would get some info first,hopefully its just one part and not the whole tranny. If it spins, but makes a grinding noise and doesn't agitate normally, then you have a busted gear in the tranny. I see NIB trannys for these machines on Ebay all the time. ALOT of work to change out. The design was problematic from the start, and was discontinued after Maytag bought Amana. Besides the tranny issue, the biggest problem is center tub seals leaking. They also tend to chew through belts and brake pads prematurely. Not worth keeping at all.

I picked up a mint condition Performa a day or so back. It may have about 20 loads put thru it. The guy who I bought it from (10.00) said he busted the main center pully (plastic of course) with his dolley when he rammed it underneath the machine to move it. I replaced the pulley and put on a new belt since his had been lost in the shuffle. I had one of the pulleys that had come off an Admiral I think but anyays I have a nice washer but will quickly sell it before the transmission playes out on it. Those damn plastic gears are the shits huh?

I don't think I will fix this one,i found a tranny on e-bay for 29.00 plus 20.00 shipping,it sold for around 45.00 plus shipping,if I needed a washer I might have bought it,this one was a curbside find,I just can't resist a free washer,I was just going to the postoffice,if I knew I was going to pick up large items I would have taken the old SUV,so it had to go in the trunk of the Volvo 240,then I turned the next corner and there was a nice ceder chest,it fit in the back seat,then I had to go back home because I was starting to look like Sanford and Son. I did find this same model in the trash a few years ago,trunk of the Volvo also and all it needed was a new plastic pulley on the bottom,this was before I knew about this site,I thought it was a Maytag,and I thought how cheap of them to use plastic pulleys, it worked great and was quiet,I was going to give it to my Mom but the old Frigidaire 1-18 was still going and very noisy, but we both were thinking how heavy that thing would be to move,so I sold the Amanatag in a garage sale. Performa=Norgetag not Amanatag. Glad you didn't buy the wrong tranny. Similar but different.
