Maytag Performa washing poorly/ dirty water?

Could be because of the water quality, detergent or the machine itself, but there`s something else on my mind, that hasn`t been ruled out by now.

When do you add the detergent ?
If you add it before you add the clothes and then turn on the washer there`s a good chance that a considerable amount of detergent is immediately flushed into the pump and can`t do it`s job in the wash anymore.
Maybe your Speed Queen is less susceptible to this problem.

I would suggest to try adding the detergent after the washer has filled with some inches of water.

I load the clothes, then add the detergent and start the washer.

Tide w/bleach

I should have mentioned that DH needs a perfume/dye free detergent. I recently switched to All Free Clear liquid from the Sears Ultra Plus P/DF liquid. Does a great job of cleaning his work clothes. I havent tried it on the whites... yet. Im planning on doing a load shortly.

Should I then try the Tide Free & Gentle? What ingredient does the Tide w/bleach use as the bleaching agent?

and while they worked ok, they left everything scratchy,

Thats Tide's new low temp surfactant, leaves everything nice and scratchy!I used some in my Easy SpinDrier, had to rinse the clothes 5 TIMES to get the scratchiness out!!

Tide Powder Detergent ='s Nuclear Option

Cracked open a vintage box of "ultra" Tide a few weeks ago for use,and am here to tell you laundry comes out blindingly white! Don't know what ghastly chemicals are in the stuff but it does clean and whiten better than anything else.

Sadly because of foaming and rinsing issues can not use the stuff in our Miele washer, so it sits closed up. May try using it when taking large loads to local laundromat. Or, if and ever one drags out the Whilpool portable or Hoover TT.
