This Maytag Dishwasher is a good model with no issues. They have built this basic design since 1976. They started building portables around 1968 with the WC 200 and then discontinued in 1974 when they were not pleased with the serviceablity if their units. I bought a WC 300 in December 1978 and converted it to built-in in 1994 and is still running. Your model is the last of the porcelain on steel tubs and a direct drive vs. belt driven. Loading is opposite of most dishwashers but is the best configuration for the design. You can also build this in later. I have converted and built-in many of these and have taken built ins and converted to portable when I save the old parts. I also have gotten these in and resold as they are durable.
I'm gonna do it and sell my Tall Tub portable. The lady told me that the soap dispenser spring is broken...easy fix I believe. She also said it does not have a water heat feature, but my water is at 135F so I'm not concerned. Wish me luck!
That model might be a direct drive one...they did come out with a direct drive series before they went to putting the racks around like a normal dishwasher. Go get it and the dispenser should be easy to get to and still available as well. Man do they clean well and plenty of power to boot.
I've had this exact model for 18 years (well, it'll be 18 years in June). I run it every other day and it hasn't had 1 repair in all of those years!! This unit contains the direct drive motor which is a little bit quieter than its belt drive counterpart.
The trick to keep them washing well is to clean any blocked orifices in the wash arms before every wash, and clean the micro filter every 6 months. For the majority of the population, they never cleaned the micro filter.......EVER, so expect it to be plugged up!
Ok..so I'm not gonna do the Kitchen Aid because I can't build it in, and the lady with the Maytag hasn't emailed me back in almost two weeks so....what about this machine?
So...I listed my Maytag portable tall tub on Craigslist and it sold in 2 days! But what happened..the lady with the reverse rack Maytag hasn't emailed me in 2 weeks! So now my sister gave me her extra 18 inch Kenmore to use until I get another dishwasher. I hate it! I need a Kitchen Aid or a Maytag portable, but I refuse to buy a new energy efficient machine! What am I going to do? I am scouring Craigslist daily for a new machine.
A little known or remembered resourse is the thrift stores such as the ones run by Salvation Army or other service organizations (here in Reno, it's WARC, ASPCA, American Cancer Society, Kiwanni's, etc...). These organizations usually will pick up donations of used appliances and then be happy to sell them for whatever they can get, usually without putting a premium price on it for being a collectable model. Also, the weeding out of junk has pretty much been done for you as they usually require the donations to be in reasonable shape and working. If you can talk to the people who work in the department who oversee the pickups and let them know what you're in the market for, they might keep an eye out for you and call if some tidbit shows up. You can't catch a prize if you don't try your luck.
Hello all.. Im totally new to this but, I have a Maytag WC204 and the timer went out. Ive been told there is NONE left and to just get a new one.. I CANT accept this!! THIS is a GREAT dishwasher.. Part #92474.. PLEASEEEEEEE HELP ME!!!

On these Kingston timers, the common problem is a stripped gear in the timer motor if it quit advancing. Dave from davesrepair.com has a bunch of these gears on hand. You'll have to remove the timer motor yourself and carefully disassemble it.
Back in January, 2014, I purchased and installed one of those brass armature drive gears for a Kingston model 60 timer motor from Dave Harnish for use in my 1973 Frigidaire dryer (WIA3T), as it suffered from the usual broken plastic drive gear at the time. My 1-18 set has been serving me well...
The dishwasher just stopped... went to bed it was working.. woke up full of water no power.. appliance man came and said the timer was bad not putting any power out (or getting power) cant remeber. I ordered a timer off ebay... the time I received from ebay it dosent click when you turn it (like the gear you spoke of is stipped) kinda looks like some wires are burnt going to the timer... can I not take the timer apart from ebay and put the gears in it (to hear it click when I turn it)how can I test to power coming into it. I refuse to give up on this dishwasher. I really appreciate ANY HELP
I also am thinking the appliance man just looked at it and said.. yup old dishwasher.. get a new one. Where can I get the schematic persay of it.. what if its the main power cord? Or the wires actually connecting to the timer.. they look a little burnt
