Maytag Question

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I had one somewhat like the one in the picture above, which I bought new in 1997. It did say Dependable Care on it. It was very good; I used it for 7 years and never had a problem with it. I think it did have a corkscrew agitator. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that it would shut off when it got out of balance, which I guess was a Maytag thing because I seem to remember my mother’s older ones doing that, too. I left it at my old house when I sold it. Thinking back, I suppose I should have brought it with me, but I figured it was probably loaded with mouse allergens, so I didn’t want to.

My Dependable Care Washer,

also bought in 1997, does have the Load Sensor agitator. I don't mind the agitator itself, just don't care for the horrible whiteness of the thing.
(Even the replacements for the PowerFin are white, according to what I have been told. Blargh!)

Mine is the LAT9806, which was the TOL. I have the matching dryer..LDG9806. (Lots of pushbuttons to play with, though I generally do not.) :)

They have both been excellent machines, and I am glad I have them.

That would be pretty much similar to the dependable care you just bought...
My mom has a washer like that, vintage 1996

96 Maytag

My uncle and aunt have this exact Maytag.

My parents also have one that is a little older. Model number is: LAT9200BAE. It was left by the old woman from whom my parents bought their house 2 years ago. I believe it was one of the last models Maytag put out with the traditional cabinet design.

What year was this model? It works great, but I always wanted to know.

Thank you,
James

I bet it's from 1995, 1 year after this generation of Dependable Care models. I have the LAT9624, two speed, all dials, Quiet-Plus, bleach dispenser. I would imagine the 8305 is a Super-Capacity Fabric-Matic (like the one on the bottom, with a bleach dispenser).

I replaced the newer white agitator with the old turquoise power-fin agitator because I didn't want to send all of that lint into my septic system. As a bonus it really improved the washing performance of the machine. They're interchangeable--you can even use an old turquoise wringer agitator on these machines. I always thought it was kind of neat how the agitator on a Maytag could disappear on large loads.
