Don’t normally change gearcases but I had a 2012 model (WTW4950XW2) with a bad control board with a good used gearcase which is similar to this, and I actually saved it.
Put it on 2010 Maytag Bravos X machine and no more roar. Runs quietly and smoothly now. Used to sound like a jet engine.
As for the 2014 Whirlpool WTW5000DW0 washer and 2019 Whirlpool WTW4816FW2 washer, I’ll just scrap them and both have bad bearings in the gearcase. Both have loud roaring sound on the spin and once I got them into spin it sounded like a jet ramping up. Some people say the 4.3 cu footers never get bad bearings, and I disagree, I found plenty that do.
And I have a photo of a 2014 WTW5000DW0 (another), 50th week 2014, bad bearings on a file from 2018, and a WTW5000DW0 made in 9th week 2015 filed in 2019. And found another file from 2018 of another WTW5000DW0 washer (11th week), with bad bearings. And a WTW5000DW1 file from 2021 (made on 9th week 2018) with bad bearings. So those still get bad bearings.
I also got a Kenmore Series 500 in 2021 with bad bearings apparently according to my photos, was a 2015 110.25132410, it was roaring when spun.
Sure, the smaller VMWs may be a little more prone, but I get plenty of those 4.something cu footers with bearing issues too, and I even encountered a Maytag commercial with bad bearings once, although I don’t think I’ve encountered more than one.
