Jetcleans are great!

My folks have a Maytag Jet Clean but the serial # is not listed as being recalled, and it is by far the best dishwasher I have ever used. It is not as quiet as a Bosch, but it makes less noise than a builders' grade, or BOL model. It is super-flexable in loading and can hold anything we throw at it. (34 people for Thanksgiving, although washed in shifts). My parents' Jetclean has washed Bob Loads almost exclusively, with pre-rinsing only when someone else is loading it. It always gets everything clean, and I am convinced that it would clean itself out if it were to be filled with concrete! Right now I am using a Whirlpool Gold Series in the house I am renting, and I want to throw it out the window because it just doesn't get things clean like it should, especially for the price. The Whirlpool is especially bad at cleaning flatware. For the price, it is a shame that it was outperformed by the BOL Roper in my old place, it is just aweful!

I wish I had a Jetclean,
Dave

This actually made the mainstream news. I saw an article in my local paper that the response to this recall has overwhelmed Maytag's customer support lines, to the point where people are getting busy signals and/or being advised to call back later.

According to the article and my memory thereof, there have been a few hundred fires and a handful of injuries due to this defect. So if I had one of the recalled dw's I'd stop using it immediately and call Maytag too.

hopefully not!!

I just got off the phone from whirlpool about the recall, (calling for a friends d/w, (hey the changed the computer receptionist) but is sounds like they are going to send out the kit to repair then someone will show up to install it, but the dispenser still will not be able to be used after they do whatever, I even asked the lady again because I couldn't believe that they would just plug it up and fix the wiring (the dispenser had been used). that sucks! They should put in a dispenser that does work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The lady said that you could use a detergent that has a rinse aid built into it. <bad word here>

shame maytag!

WoW as if they needed more bad press maytag really needs to get there stuff together i wouldnt buy maytag anything! and now that whirlpool stepped in I doubt it would change anything whirlpool too has had a recall some time ago on dishwashers! So i wonder who never had recalls? hmmm

my situation

I need some opinions, please. I have one of the recalled DW's. Maytag offered me the same fix as described in the last post. My machine is like new, and has no issues other than the recall. I have never taken a dirty dish out of it, and I don't pre-rinse. I don't use rinse-aid, either. Should I let them fix it or go ahead and buy a new one? (it will NOT be a Maytag or Whirlpool....) My machine was purchased in 1998, so it has a few years on it. Opinions, please?
