Maytag recalls 2.3 Million Dishwashers

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

What? A $75.00 Cash Back offer on a new machine, you have GOT to be kidding me! What a way to turn a negative into a sales surge!
I'd opt for the free repair, BUT I wonder how long you'd have to wait for a service call, as I assume there will be a rash of them for some time to come.
We had a MOL Maytag DW we bought back in 92 or so, best machine we ever had. It was built like a tank, no pre rinsing needed AND it was very quiet to run. But I don't think that Maytag builds them that good anymore.

More Flaming Dishwashers

Oh great.. One of the complex's u manage has about 10 of those dishwashers (the one on the right).... When the GE thing was going on, one complex here replaced 500 dishwashers at once..

mine is one of them

My dishwasher is one of the hazardous ones, and so is my sister's. I called the Maytag recall line, only to be told their systems are down and to please call back later. Will keep all posted on my progress. I am going to opt for the repair, as this is one of the best machines I have ever used, and just don't want to replace it with a new one, which I am sure is crap....

I think I remember GE doing something similar. The "heat off" switch would catch fire and rather than replacing a $5.00 part they offered some money off a new model? I think they got in trouble for it, too.

interesting??

I think it's a crock of ..... What's Whirltag trying to do? Remove all evidence of "good" dishwashers??? Makes me wanna go buy a new one......NOT!!!

Channel 13 just talked about the recall...apparently the rinse agent (aka Jet-Dry) dispensers are faulty, causing the rinse agent leaks onto the electrical components resulting in the subsequent short and fire. I guess if you don't use Jet-Dry, it's not a problem.

the "cure"

the "cure" offered by Maytag --- (ONLY if the rinse-aid dispenser has never been used) is to provide a permanent plug for the dispenser, disabling it forever. I guess if you have used the dispenser, Maytag will repair the defect by replacing the rinse-aid dispenser. Still can't reach them by phone.....

I have used my dispenser, but not for several years (since I started using Cascade Complete). Think I'm gonna continue using mine, but monitoring it closely, until it can be repaired.

update

I just called the "Hotline" back...was asked to call back after 6, so I waited until 7:30. Their systems are still down. Overload, perhaps???

I dunno how (or) if those dishwashers jet dry dispensers where ever used. The complex was built in 2000, and the lady who i am managing it for said to fix em... Ok...

From what I understand there will be a kit out to repair this. It will have an inner door panel & some sort of protective covers for the wiring harness.

motor noises

Mine makes those noises, too. When it was less than a year old, I had a repairman look at it. Under warranty, the motor was replaced. The silence lasted about another year. Another repair visit, another new motor. This time, the repairman told me (and he was from my local dealer, so I believe him) that this noise was common, it was some kind of seal rubbing. It was OK to use, and I have lived with this noise for almost 7 years. The machine performs maginficently, except for this noise. I don't believe there is a reason to be concerned about the noise.

mine is under the recall

you get a automated voice that askes you for your model number and serial number, then tells you call call back during regular business hours.
I'll be calling them on monday.
