Maytag recalls almost 2 million dishwashers

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I know I have the option of keeping the DW I currently have and having it fixed. But seeing how Maytag has handled their last recalls, its a hassle. It'll take them months to get to our machine if we report it today. If only I could get past the busy signal and their failing server. And how do I know they won't break it as they are repairing it?

What asssurance do you have that you won't drop dead when you get out of bed each morning? None. It's not Maytag service, it's Whirlpool and if they break something, you call them to fix it. Please don't tell me you are so timid that you cannot demand that a service company fix what they broke.

I have one of the Maytags and on those rare occasions when I use the heated drying cycle, sometimes, it gives off a burning odor.
It is a Maytag design and I will replace it and take the rebate.
I think that the rebate is $150.00 for a plastic tub and $250.00 for a stainless steel tub. I will shop and see what is available.

Ross, the way an electric element cleans itself is by burning off the stuff stuck to it, but it has to get hotter than it gets just heating the water to do that. If you do not use the element for drying, a slight film of minerals, soil and dishwasher additives builds up on the element. That is what you smell burning off on the rare occasions that you use the heated dry.

I am definitely not a timid person! But people who have had this happen then had to reschedule another service call to fix the additional damage. It's just the hassle of it all. You have at least to give them a chance to make things right before you go into warpath mode. Plus I am away from home for periods of time and my wife doesn't handle these things well. She'd rather have me here to deal with it.

I tend to agree that this has turned into a nothing for me.

I finally got through to Maytag today and found out that my unit isn't under recall. Their website said that models that begin with NW50 (which we have) are in the recall, but the Maytag rep said that not all NW50's are affected. Our model number is not included in the recall. So I lucked out on this one and am greatly relieved.

But I do feel for the people who are going to be affected by this.

So the best thing for people to do is call in with your model number & serial number and let Maytag tell you if you are in the recall or not.

MT DW RECALL

This is a simple service call to replace the heating element and support clips. Its not nearly as involved as the recall that required the complete wiring harness and inner door panel to be replaced. We already have the kits in stock, if you want to avoid the hassles call your independent MT-WP dealer servicer they will fix it for free with many small dealers you don't even have to be home. Here in the DC area about half of our customers will just leave the door unlocked or hide a key for us so its very little hassle to get this type of thing fixed.

Right on the money, John!

Just find a local, independent dealer or servicer and it gets done. We are a local dealer/servicer and we're actually doing the kits next day. A HUGE advantage over the 1-800 line... As a added bonus, we're going thru our customer records of sales and finding the affected units we sold and calling the customers. We're finding that the reaction is pretty positive that we're tracking them down instead of the other way around...
