Maytag Set

Looks very clean but it looks like the dryer is newer than the washer so I’m thinking this is not a truly matched set. But the washer is the more desired center dial machine and it’s in great shape. I contacted the seller so we’ll see where it goes from here.

These are likely the same age but the buyer got the TOL washer and a slightly less expensive dryer.

Makes Sense

I just noticed that the dryer doesn’t appear to be a lighted back panel like the washer so I wasn’t sure if the age was the same for that reason. I have a non lighted center dial set in white but they are not great condition wise. The washer I have is a parts machine due to a hose leak that must have gone on for several years and rusted out the cabinet on the back left side of the machine and the dryer is in good condition but has seen good amounts of use still. I’m looking forward to a good quality set.

Shortly these will be in Shannon’s big house of vintage appliances lol. They have spent their life on a main floor so that’s great news in regards to not dealing with rust from a basement. My first lighted back panel Maytag so that’s going to be cool.

They have arrived! Plus A Couple Extras

They are just as clean as I hoped. I am very excited to fire these up tomorrow. This was from an estate and the woman who inherited the home just wanted to get rid of stuff. The price at $100 was very reasonable I thought given the condition. She had another gentleman offer her $500 for the set and she still kept her word with me for the agreed $100 price which was very good of her. While there she explained the situation with the house, her time constraints etc and asked me if I was interested in anything else. She then mentioned an old refrigerator she had in the basement, which was ironic as I’ve been on the lookout for a vintage refrigerator to use in my collection room anyway. We’ll long story short I got a free small (8 CF give or take) refrigerator out of the deal. I worked hard removing the fridge out of the tiny basement stairway removing a door along the way. I also found a free white A207 nearby which was another nice bonus for the long 8 hour round trip. Got some monsoon rains on the trip back but everything was covered up and only got a little wet in a few spots, nothing a towel couldn’t wipe off once home. I’ve attached some pictures of the avocados, the new fridge (minus the shelves) and that A207 as well. I hope my friends here are having good luck finding some cool stuff as well! Happy hunting

Started cleaning up the A806 and so far it’s not disappointing at all. Just normal dirt in a few places but zero rust thus far. Even the bottom of the machine is clean! Definitely keeping my eye out for more machines that have spent their lives on upper floors in homes. Just a bit more scrubbing and then I’ll fire her up. Even grabbed a new led replacement T-8 bulb for the top panel so it should be nice and bright. Updates soon!

Clean 806 Pair

Wow that is in great shape, we always like getting older machines that spent their life on upper floors or in condos because they usually have about ZERO rust etc.

 

There is a building in Chevy Chase Maryland that was built in 1982, each of the 132  condos had a full sized WP W&D, and we still are getting some of the original machines from that building.

 

The people were older when they moved in and their kids were grown and gone so the machines did not have hard use, all were a LHA5700WO and the dryer was a LHE5700WO, the building had an exhaust assist system and 208 volts so the dryers had next to zero problems, maybe a belt after 25 years or so.

 

The sad thing is doing all the appliance work in the building we got to know a lot of interesting people and nearly every one of them are gone now.

Easy Agitator Removal

I was happily surprised that the agitator came off with ease. No fighting at all, I just grabbed the underside and pulled up and it popped right off with minimal effort. I suppose that speaks to the low use it’s seen. Any specific grease or lubricant I should coat the splines with so the agitator will be easy to remove in the future as well? Also without a bolt, what keeps these from popping off during a wash cycle?

Finished cleaning her up. Put in an LED direct fit replacement bulb for brighter better quality light and hopefully longer life. I’m not sure I’m going to change seals etc as it has no issues but I’ll grab the parts so I have them for the future. Also does anyone need any A-108 parts?

Looking good Shannon. There’s a rubber ring on the transmission shaft that holds the agitator on.
