My A712 has started making a "ticking" noise while it's spinning. It was fine at first but, began making the noise after I moved the motor around...just checking it out.

Does anyone have a picture and the part number for an "AgiTamer" agitator remover? I cannot remove my Power-Fin from the washtub. Boiling hot water and soaking and a mallet did not work.
 
Haryy...out of curiosity.....take the belt of the pump off, and put the machine into a spin cycle....just want to rule out what is exactly making the noise.....I had one making a noise like coins in the outter tub rattling....it was the pump bearings
 
Hey Martin, I removed the pump belt and ran the spin cycle...the ticking noise is still there.

The Maytag washer service manual in the MISCELLANEOUS PROBLEM diagnosic area under (washer noisy at beginning or during spin) section say if there is a "ticking sound...check to be sure motor pulley is not touching one of the motor carriage bolts or loose swedge on motor pulley". I checked that and the clearance is okay.
About the motor, it isn't really necessary to clean and change the lube in the carriage before I add the third spring? Should I bother get all new springs?

Here are a few things I notice...
1-the pump does not remove all the water from it when draining the tubs...it stores water in the pump...is this normal? When it is spinning after the drain I hear a continueous 'gurgling and slurping' sound from the drain hose...can that be because of the positioning of the hose? It's pretty loud.

2-After I attached the top back to the cabinet I notice it looks lop-sided or tilting...the front panel is removed...now my rear rubber foot pads are completely destroyed...perhaps this is causing the tilting and centering spring problem I'm having.

3-the front spring appears to be stretched out more than the other two...the tub will not stay centered.

4-The washer is noisy also as it agitates...(THIS IS NOT NORMAL) for Maytag's. I washed a beach towel to see if the weight would adjust the cause... the 'ticking' noise decreased when it spinned. So I tried a heavier load and the sound almost disappeared...but it's still there...what do you think?

Hey Martin, again I'm not a mechanic...what's the 2 x 4 with 'ratchet tiedowns'...is it expensive...do you have a pic?
 
Bleach Dispenser

The rubber tube that connects the dispenser to the tub should be secured to the cabinet. If not, it will tick, slap or knock against the cabinet suring spin.
 
Maytags gurgle when they begin to agitate and also after the drain, or at least mine do. alr2903
 
Maytag ticking...

My LA308 makes a sort of banging noise when the spin initiates. It always quiets by the time the spin is up to roughly full speed. I did replace the motor glide springs and that made no difference. I kind of think that the new belts I put on might be banging around a little bit on the underside of the baseplate. Agitation sounds completely normal. Honestly, the machine runs perfectly and seems to have no harm done other than a briefly annoying sound while throwing water.

Run the machine with the front cover removed and see if you can locate the noise. It sounds like it's just the bleach hose vibrating against the cabinet. The out-of-balance switch should engage if the tub is hitting the cabinet.
 
Jon - it is a violent bang, or more of a tick? The hose for the water level pressure switch can sometimes bang in the cabinet as well, but that would be more of a tick than a bang.

I ran across an 806 quite some time ago that had a ruckus during initial spin but it would quiet up by the time full speed was reached. It ended up being the damper pads.

I got a Maytag stacked, used, which had new belts put on by the previous owner, and made a banging noise when it would start to spin, and the motor jumped a little erractic, this is why the guy was selling it...turns out the NEW belts had a "WIDE" spot that was barely noticable, but when it looped around the motor pulley was creating a racket.....I put a set of used belts I had on and its super quiet and runs smooth now
 
When I first began testing the machine there weren't any noises...other then the one generated from the worn spin (radial) bearing. The ticking noise started after I moved the motor around...I pulled it forward, towards the front panel then (back and forth). It is not the bleach dispenser hose or the water level pressure hose because the're rubber...the tick sound seem like it's metal against metal. When I checked to see if the noise had gone away Monday, it did. Today I washed a few loads...after the fouth load, the tick noise returned.
 
Hmmmm....

I wonder if you have one of those crappy 2 piece motor pulleys? Remove the belts and see if you an twist the two motor pulleys in opposite directions. If you can, you'll need another motor pulley.
 
Does the pulley have a screw on it? Could a loose screw be the cause of the ticking noise, if so, I'll just need to tighten it up...I'm I right? If not, do you know the part number of the motor pulley to replace it with?

Yeah, it's an Allen head. Good idea to make sure that's nice and tight.
 
Update

Ok, so I tilted the washer back today. The motor pulley was solid and had no give. What I did notice was that the skinny belt for the pump was rather loose. It was practically hanging there because of little tension applied to it. I thought that had to be what was banging around under there. I grabbed the old belt that was original to the machine (I had replaced them both when I got the washer) and popped the old pump belt on. It seemed to have better tension. Ran a test load and it was perfectly quiet...no noises of any kind.

I did replace motor glide springs which helped with agitation. Apparently not all belts are equal though. Could be something like that. The noise sounded almost like taking a belt you'd wear and lightly slapping it against the cabinet. That pretty much is what it was.

Were the new belts in an FSP bag? I've been wondering if there is a difference between the older genuine Maytag belts vs the new FSP ones.
 
FSP/Maytag belts, springs and rollers

I bought a set of belts, springs and rollers from a vendor off of Ebay. They all appear to be generic. The belts have Maytag part numbers on them but no Maytag of FSP logos. When I installed them, the pump belt was too loose. It even looks like the adjustment may not take up enough slack for them to be useable. The rollers look very cheaply made and the springs look OK. Since my original rollers and springs are in excellent shape they are getting reused for now with a fresh coat of poly lube on the rollers.

I bought a used service manual on Ebay that came with an NOS Maytag drive belt and I got an FSP bagged pump belt from another Ebay vendor that has a Maytag logo on it. I compared the length and thickness of the apparently generic belts with the Maytag/FSP belts and the generic pump belt seems to be a bit longer. The drive belt looks like it would be OK.

I would stick with the real thing while they are still available.

I had bought NOS Maytag belts sealed in Maytag logo bags. The belts have Maytag written on them also. Now I suppose that doesn't mean Maytag didn't change their source for belts at some point. Anyways, who knows why they didn't stay consistent with belt sizes. That would make a big difference in performance!
