Haunting the local Habitat for Humanity Restore this morning they have a Maytag stacking w/d with the computerized keypad controls, model I think is SE1000. Was wondering what year these were made?

These are relatively good machines EXCEPT the touchpad model has a very weird low voltage fill valve that can fail to close. If you use one, do not leave it alone until it has finished the cycle and you have turned off the water, if you can access the faucets. Actually, once the valve closes after the rinse fill, you are safe because the valves don't open by themselves. Unlike the stack Maytags that have the mechanical controls, this one has a warm rinse option. The awful thing about these is that the washer has to fit into the base frame and making everything fit and making sure that it is level can be a pain. If you are working in tight quarters, the fact that it separates into three pieces makes fitting it through small areas easy, at least until you have to start putting it together.

I was just reading your thread and thought I'd comment that I had an identical pair (mine was in white though) that I purchased new in June 1985 for my very first home. The electronics were very precise and sensative. The dryer responded to a bird building its nest in the vent by giving me an error code and refusing to run until I cleaned the vent out, cracking 6 bird eggs on my head in the process.
