Maytag Stream-of-Heat won't start--20 years storage

Grrr. Have had a time of it this winter with clothes dryers. As I'd posted earlier, there was a 1973 Kenmore gas in the house when we moved in in 2008. Worked fine until the igniter busted in January. Fiddled around and decided I didn't want to fuss with it any longer. I had my grandmother's Maytag electric from about 1982 out in the garage, where we put it when we moved in. There was a 220 outlet next to the gas dryer, so assumed all was set. When I looked closer, the outlet was a 50 amp, the circuit breaker was 30 amp, and the dryer was 30 amp, so needed to swap the outlet. Electrician called, came, completed; to now find that the Maytag electric dryer when plugged in will buzz faintly and not start. I'm thinking corrosion on motor/binding on fan and attempting to free everything up/lube everything may suffice. Any other things to consider?

Unhooked belt--still buzzes. Assumption is that motor is seized; can't find a keyway to break it loose. Out to the curb.

probably easy fix

clamp a vicegrips on the pulley and see if you can "crack" it loose -motor probably has rust between the rotor and stator from condensation over the long storage.

Dead Dryers

Hi Jamie, so what happened to the KM gas dryer ?, kicking the MT electric dryer to the curb was probably a good move as you don't want to go back to electric if you have natural gas for clothing drying.

If the KM still has trouble lighting just change out the entire burner assembly from a 1985 or newer KM or WP 29" wide dryer.

Yes as stated above vice grips, get the motor loose, then oil the heck out of it. Don't throw it out because you can't quick fix it, don't be poke-easy.

Without taking off the casing to the entire dryer can't get a vice-grip on the shaft--I've fussed with both too long. The used appliance store is taking the two away when they drop off a 20 year old (black control panel) extra capacity Whirlpool with electronic sensor. Done.
