Maytag Tall Tub Dishwasher

Hi all. I've had my Maytag dishwasher since August and I just noticed something. The upper spray arm doesn't reach the corners of the upper rack. I've never had anything come out dirty from this machine, but now I'm paranoid about putting glasses or mugs in the corners. One jet at the end of the spray arm is angled so maybe it does reach the corners. Someone tell me not to worry!

Corners of the top rack in tall tub d/w's are a weak spot, but the Maytag has a more powerful wash motor, so don't fret. The weak spot is the plastic impeller that they used under the wash impeller, it tends to strip out. You will know this when the motor runs, but you don't hear any water being sprayed around the tub. I guess I haven't been very helpful in the "don't worry" dept. Sorry!!

If it's less than 1 year old, they may have fixed the impeller problem....Ok feel better??? LOL!!

I have a tall-tub Maytag, too, and I've never had a problem with dirty glassware coming from the corners up the upper rack. Worry not, my good man! Your mighty Maytag will get the job done.

While the TL'er washers may have gotten a quality boost by becoming rebadged/upscaled Whirlpools, the dishwashers would definitely suffer if the current Maytag washing system is replaced with Whirlpool's.

Dishwasher has been a real good Dishwasher for me, even given that Maytag had a Free Repair early-on, to replace the Wiring Harness, because of a possible Fire Hazard. I've always had everything come out Clean and nothing with left-over Food, well except for a couple of times on some Corning Ware Quart Cookware pieces, that it didn't get totally clean. I think that it was because of the position of the piece not getting any straight-on Spraying and getting more like running-off Water inside it.

I've got the 1st Generation of the Taller-Tub, when they came out with the 3-Rack, I was looking forward in buying it, until I saw the 3rd Rack and decided that it wouldn't really help me. I would much rather have the extra Height of the Bottom Rack and the Adjustable Top Rack. I've never really set the Upper Rack to the higher setting and everything that I've needed to put in there for Washing fit real good in both Racks.

I hope that this helps you with some Positive Feedback, don't worry, just if need be, don't place items in the Corners, unless they might be Bowls of Flat Plates, instead of Glasses.

Dirt in the corners!!!!

If you really want to see how well your glasses get washed in any given position in the rack, get enough glasses to fill the rack completely including the corners. Then get some mayonnaise and smear the insides of all of them and put them inside the machine and wash them with a typical load in the bottom rack. I would let it go thru its first fill and wash and then open the door to see what the story was. If they are all clean, you have nothing to worry about. If not, you will see just where not to place items if you want them clean.
You might as well let it finish the cycle while theya re in there and see how they turn out at the end. Commercial machines are sometimes tested this was to assess cleaning ability. But remember, most undercounter commercial machines dont run for more than 2-3 minutes and then theya re ready for their next load.

I've always thought a good test for a dishwasher was ashtrays. Many fall flat when dealing with them - but I've been surprised by the performance of a few. I'm not saying you should take up smoking (although your friends will think you're cool ;-) but it's one of those particularly hard things to clean...

I have always been bugged by the way Consumer Reports and the Department of Energy test dishwashers. I don't expect the bureaucrats to know Jack about dishwashers, but CR never tests dishwashers with what I consider regular loads with big bowls and pieces of cookware in the bottom rack that block water to the top rack. Historic testing of machines with upper rack water delivery systems (like Kenmore, WP, KA, Waste King, etc)along with machines having only a single wash arm below the bottom rack, never pointed out the efficiency of being able to fully utilize both racks without leaving part of the upper rack in a dead zone because of bowls or pans in the lower rack blocking water to the area above them. At least CR uses dirty dishes for their tests. The DOE tests energy and water consumption with loads of clean dishware.

The best stubborn test for dishwashers is scrambled egg.
