Maytag Temp Selection Conversion

I’m picking up a center dial two speed Maytag Thursday (pictured first). I’m not sure of the exact model of the new machine but I have an A-108 single speed parts Machine (pictured second) that has the 4 temperature selection options instead of just Hot, Warm and Cold like on the new machine of which I assume all just have a cold rinse? Is it possible to change the temperature selection buttons from my parts machine to the new one? Do I need to also change the inlet valve or other parts as well or is it just not worth doing? I like having lots of control over washing options which is usually why I seek out TOL or at least middle of the line models but I don’t mind creating a TOL or MOL model myself if it’s possible.

Yes.  look for the temp switch on an A608 with four temperature selections.  Others will know for sure.

It's hard to tell from the small picture, but the machine you are picking up looks like an A207.

The big differences between the A108 and A207 are:

(1) Two speed motor in the A207 vs. single-speed motor in the A108
(2) A108 has the additional Hot Wash/Warm Rinse option.

I think the width of the opening on the control panel for the temp selection switch may be the same for both models, so the A108 4-temp switch should fit on the A207 control panel.

Both models would use the same water valves, so that's not an issue.

Looking at the wiring diagrams, it looks like both models have the same wire connections from the temp switches to the water valve solenoids and the timer.

However, the wiring diagram for the A207 shows an additional "J" wire connection coming from and going back to the timer. This probably has something to do with the rinse cycle water temperature since it appears one end shares a connection with the 7T timer to temp selection switch connection. Maybe it's just a jumper that bypasses the rinse cycle temp selection and only allows cold rinses - without looking at both timers, it is hard for me to know whether your plan will work. You can't just swap the timers either because the A207 supports the 2-speed motor and the A108 does not.

I've added photos of the A207 from the 1975 Maytag brochure below.

I've also included the water temp switch portions of both models' wiring harnesses (Photos 3 is A108 harness and photo 4 is A207 harness) to show the difference (look for the J wire on the A207 diagram.)

208/608 switch should work fine. I can't remember now if the newer switch will fit inside the console opening as it has been almost 10 years since I fooled around with non TOL consoles. I may have an NOS switch in my parts stash if you're interested. It's time to thin out more of those parts.

You can put a 4 temperature switch in from the 108, the opening is the same size. There's no need to change anything else, the wiring for the temperature switch and fill valves are all the same back then
