Maytag vs Panasonic Cordless Iron

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Still obsessing over the Dualit toaster and perc, though...:

Seems Dualit toasters are either loved or hated. I have one and wouldn't trade it for anything. They take a while to get used to, but once familiar they're unbeatable. Kind of like the old style Hewlett-Packard calculators, if that means anything to you. I also have a Dualit electric kettle, and it's great, too, although it was a gift so I don't know that I would ever have picked it out myself.

Go get yourself a Dualit toaster. I'll be your Official Enabler.

Spitting and Staining - OY!

Toggle, if you say ANYTHING.... ;-)

Hey Eugene:

I have a Rowenta Acti-Press, and while I didn't spend big bucks for it, I have experienced the same nasty mess during ironing! On occasion, if I set the iron upright, it leaks from the bottom. On occasion, when I go to press something, it tumbles out of the sides. I initially thought it might be calcium deposits. However, this occurs even if the iron has been thoroughly cleaned. This has got to be the most frustrrating thing; a freshly laundered shirt about to be pressed, then an embarassing accident - leaving a loooonnnng streak and staining, and a shirt that needs to be rewashed!

I may have to check out the B&D just to keep me from launching the Rowenta out of the laundry room and into an innocent bystander! OOPS!

steam generators/rowenta leaks and fits

Combining two posts into one to save BA...
1) Steam generators vary enormously in quality, best research it well. My last one was a dream, company went broke, fiddly little part not available, bah-humbug.
2) Some Rowenta are made in China, some in Germany. Bummer.
3) Because German water is so hard the water breaks before the glass when you drop it, German irons are usually made to run with de-ionized water. My last Rowenta (not the Chinese sh::) lasted 30 years, got dropped.
4) I hate those stupid US cords...why can't they make the lead more flexible like in the rest of the world? And no, you can't use an European cord, cause the wires are too thin for 110V...

Go With the Maytag Cordless

I bought Me a Maytag a couple of weeks ago off ebay and I tell You it's an awsome iron. I quit ironing several years ago but now that I got My Maytag I'm back to ironing again

No longer a bandwidth issue......

Read Roberts post in the bandwidth thread. The email sent to him regarding bandwidth was an error. There was only 80gb of the 1000gb used in the month of December, not 800.
Relax! Post! link! Embed! Click! enjoy!
He may shoot me.......

I can think of other things to spend $150 on....

And it ain't no iron!

I have had nothing but bad luck with Black & Decker items, so I made it a point to quit buying this brand.

I like Sunbeam....old, and new. My main peeve is cords also, but not when ironing, but for storage. I bought the Sunbeam Steam Master Drip Free. It has the retractable cord storage. Not a bad iron, if I must say so. The one I used before that was a Proctor Silex Easy Press...junk.

I am happy with my Sunbeam. It was cheap, as I think I only paid $30 for it. Heats up very quickly, as I am usually ironing something for work at 5 am.

The only thing I just don't understand, is why on certain shirts, I get a "glazing" type shine. But this is only on certain fabrics, not all. This has me totally confused.

Maybe I have it too hot, I dunno. Any one know what causes this?

Venus--- Isn't that frustrating about the Rowenta irons? It's too bad, because other than that one unforgivable trait, I loved mine. Anyway, give a Black & Decker Digital Advantage D2030 a try. I got mine for about 50 bucks at Target. It heats quickly and steams like a monster.

Carol--- I'm not a fan of most Black & Decker items, either. I was initially skeptical about purchasing the iron, but decided to try it since it was top-rated by CR. So far, no regrets at all. I definitely watch the temp of the iron when used on fabrics containing a lot of man-made materials (Rayon, etc.) Also, you might try ironing the affected shirts with a flour-sack dish towel between the shirt and the iron. That buffers the heat and steam a bit.

Iron??? Who irons any thing here? LoL..

I usualy throw what ever's wrinkled into da maytag and letter rip for 15 minuets and give it a good shake afterwards and voila, its edible! Unless i need to look real dressy and then i do iron it (not well) with that sunbeam contraptions which is nice.. BTW, my last five irons i killed, including two vintage GE's ones and a really nice braun and a couple black and deckers... I was trying to iron the mashed impression marks of furniture out of the carpet with one and melted the carpet to the iron, one i tried to use starch with and used half of a huge can and it got some gunky crap all over it, one i dropped in the porcilan god while one, one got ruined in a flood, i tried the ironing carpet idea agin with my last one.. This one's held up so far, but it has been dropped a bunch... And left out on the porch in the rain when we moved (it does still work)

Maytag Irons...

We sell the Maytag Cordless Irons at the Hoover store where I work. They say "reconditioned" on the boxes, and we never got a straight answer on what that actually meant. Every one I've taken out of a box is new. We sell a good number of them.

Shoot me an e-mail if you would like me to get you pricing on them.

We have both the Stainless and Titanium models.

iron shine

this is important, Carol. DONT press down on the iron while using it. use a light touch to glide the iron across. NO downward pressure. also, only make one (or two) SLOW pass over any given area. resist the temptation to run the iron back and forth. moderate temp and STEAM are also key.

Chad, i had almost the same Sunbeam. i loved it. if anyone has one NIB im willing to buy!

More iron mayhem

Eugene,

I had a feeling someone was going to suggest the "tea towel" rhythm! LOL
Honey, I just don't have time that early in the morning! ;-)
But I bet you are right on that rayon remark. I have 4 of the same shirts in different colors, and it happens on all of them. Items with more cotton are ok.

David dear,

You are just too cute! (you REALLY are) I can just see you telling me this in person! LOL :-D

IIRC, the shine doesn't go away after being washed either. I haven't worn any of these shirts in quite a while...will have to investigate further when cleaning out the closet this weekend.

But I will try what has been recommended.....honestly...lol.

Chad, my Sunbeam is similar to the bandwidthwasting (just kidding!!!) picture above, except it states, "Drip Free", is grey and has a black sole plate, oh and a automatic retractable cord, and....

Ooohh nevermind...it's nothing like that pic. LOL

C~
