"Looks like a A608"

I'm not a pro at identifying, but from a thread 14247, it seems it's missing the five buttons(isn't there four?), to the left of the center dial? Just asking and thanks Bob!

Um....

While I can clearly see four water level buttons, the presence of three buttons would not automatically mean a 208.

First-generation 606s had three water levels, same as the first-generation 806s.

All this having been said, I'm pretty sure the above machine is a 608.

nashotah, milwaukee....

i do like this, especially if it's a 608. but milwaukee is so far from arizona.

i was also wondering something....

would it be very hard to switch cabinets from a 208 to a 608??

Christina:

Switching cabinets on a Maytag is not a terrible job.

The nice thing is that Maytag used the same cabinet for almost everything, so you can swap most cabinets to most machines.

There are some exceptions. On early "New Generation" machines, like early A806s, the bleach dispenser fill opening is different than it would be on later machines - it's on the right instead of the left side of the tub opening. That means you can't swap an early top to a later machine or vice versa, because the bleach dispenser fill ends up on the opposite side of the machine from the dispenser itself.

The term "New Generation" refers to the generation of Maytags introduced in 1966; these designs were produced, with some changes, until 1980. Most all the vintage Maytags you've been looking at on this site are "New Generation" machines.

switching cabinets...

i ask this because just in case, i can only find a white maytag near me, i was wondering how hard it would be to switch my gold colored cabinet onto a white cabinet, or a cabinet that is in rough shape. if you know what i mean?

and yeah, i think i like the look of the "new generation" maytags the best. that look's to be my personal preference. i was just wondering if, since my 208 has the smaller washtub, if there was a difference in size, of the the larger washtub maytags, like a 608?

aside from the screws, are the cabinets connected to the control panels in any other ways??
i know, i'm probably getting ahead of myself here, but i was just thinking, just in case i might not find a 608 in one of the "fashionable" colors, maybe if i found a plain white one, like this one listed here, i could put my gold 208 cabinet on a plain white 608?
i was just wondering is all.....
