Hi i have a 31 year old maytag washer model #lat5910aaw looking for some ideas whats wrong with it. This is what its doing wont agitate unless you add tension to motor> This is what i replaced both belts,the motor guides and springs and it worked a few times after that.Now when i went to use it it was burning the belt and wont agitate if i add tension on motor it would shut off.I tryed it later and added some tension and got it to work, it seems after i get it to work it will keep working load after load like it needs to warm up its inside my house so its in 65-70 degrees temp . I was thinking maybe the oil in the trans needs to be replaced? anybody have any ideas thanks Jack

maytag not agitating sometimes

Hi i just tried the washer it seems if i use it the next day it will work ok not sure what that has to do with anything any ideas? thanks Jack

To me, it sounds like the bearings in the transmission are starting to lock up.

Yep, sounds like the agitator shaft could be seizing up, possibly from a leaking stem seal.

Good news is at 31 years old it should have an orbital trans which can still be found.
