The first looks like an A106/A107 (std. capacity); 2nd an A108 (large capacity) both Fabric-Matics; the 3rd looks like an A207/208--2-speed std. capacity and the last one an A606.

Bob, here's a shot from a prior posting in Super (Post# 216563 , Reply# 2 ) that shows the A606 - is that a button or light at the 12 O'Clock position that lights up or is just a marker?

Phil, that's just a sticker that's at the 12 o'clock position. I've never seen one of those "in person" but I believe it may have designated "Heavy Duty".

Phil, I apologize. I thought you were referring to the 1st panel displayed. The 2nd panel you displayhed, yes that is a little light which glows orange when the timer knob is pulled out to start the machine and stays light after the machine finishes the final spin--serves as a subtle reminder there's laundry in there that needs to be put in the dryer.

thank you , Bob - that's what I thought, but never sure....btw, were there more buttons than nine provided on these styled Maytags? I can research and look, but ...just thinking there was a model with ten buttons..and the matching dryer had more than three(?).

Apparently, when Maytag stopped to install pilot light on their machines around the mid-seventies, some machines still had the indicator with no light behind. I must have seen this somewhere on this site! I don't recall if it was effective with the late production blue panels or the early Sunglow panels?

 

 

Here's some information on the different Maytag models from a 2-1972 sales brochure. There's information about signal lights on dryers but not on washers (the signal lights on the 806-906 was the fluorescent panel, not the small indicator). I think some of them had the indicator without a light (D306-D307 models). If I recall correctly, some washers also lacked the pilot light but had an indicator (and some washers with the blue panels lacked the light and the indicator).

Phil, a 407 could have 11 buttons and an 806 could have 13 buttons (this did not include suds saver models). A 606 could have 10 buttons. I never really paid much attention to when the operating indicator lights were discontinued. Only the SOH (big-load) electronic control dryers had 4 buttons--regular and delicate heat settings as well as normal dry and extra dry settings. I believe 306 & 406 dryers had regular and delicate heat buttons. None of the HOH dryers had buttons on them, even the brief time the panels had the sunburst yellow lower portion on them.

Wow, a neighbor of mine had that exact model. It was the quietest, smoothest running washer that I can remember to date.

A606 indicator light. It could be useful if the machine shut itself off mid cycle for an unbalanced load but if you were close enough to the washer to see the dial, you'd lift the lid. One of my aunts had an A606 with this light and had it disconnected, "there is no earthly reason for a light on a washer. " A friend asked me what the light was for on mine once and I quipped it was the oil light. When it comes on, it's leaking oil

I woke this morning to find a ton of info to review - thanks everyone....I like these old machines, as much as I've always liked digital. Thanks PhilR, Bob, and Gan. A Salesmen back when these were made, would have fun remembering what had which features (I know, there's a catalog).

on the 4th washer in cary, nc.
it looks like there is that chrome line, right in the center, dividing that sticker above the control knob. it looks like the chrome line goes from the center dial up. you can see the reflection of light bouncing off that chrome line. can't you?? or am i just seeing things???
could the 4th washer be an A806???
i know it's hard to tell, but it looks like that chrome line that is where the pilot light is, on an A606. do you see it???

My mom purchased a Maytag set in summer of '73. The washer an A207 (gave away), and the dryer a DE406 (still have). Neither of them have the indicator light, nor the lens for one.

Someone has posted a document on here that lists the changes, and the effective dates.

Thank you so much for posting that Features and Specifications page!

It makes something I've tried to help others understand very clear - Maytag had two machines that could be considered "top-of-the-line." If you'll look at the 906's features, they're not really comparable to any other machine's, because the 906 was so automated, with no user selectivity really possible.

The 806 was the one with all the cycles and options, every one selectable at will and whim.

So, you could buy the automated TOL machine, or the versatile TOL machine.

I have to say I like the looks of the 906 better and I am among those who care for that but I think it lacks some features. More water levels, a pre-wash and a soak cycle would have been great, and also a programmed extra rinse (somthing that the 806 also lacks). And I think it should have incorporated something to show the progress of the cycle like those cycle lights on many dishwashers that have a rapid-advance timer.

 

The brochure says "Another top line choice" for the 806...
