Maytag WP600 Series 01

My fiance's grandmother recently passed away and left a pristine Maytag WP600 dishwasher. From what I have gathered it sounds like it has only been used a handful of times. The junk at the bottom is most likely a pile of Borax or baking soda she left in there to keep clean. Anyone have any information or suggestions if there is market for this or a collector who would want it?

Nice machine.

Please look closely at the rear where the lid hinges join the cabinet. Are there any signs of separation or cracks? These lids had powerful springs and thin tub metal which led to the afore-mentioned problems over time.

Maytag Top Load RR DW

This DW is probably one of the later ones built before MT abandoned TL DWs altogether. MT TL portable DWs were abandoned before MT came out with the belt drive RR DWs around 1974. This TL DW shared the same combined motor and and drain and main pump that MTs first built-in DWs used and while these pump and motors were a little quieter that the NOISY BD pumps they were a PITA to repair [ you usually ended up replacing the whole thing ]

 

Interestingly the first DW Maytag ever built was this style TL portable but it had two separate pumps and motors sourced from major pump builders, these early MT TL portables were probably the most reliable MT DWs ever.

 

Overall these MT TL portable DWs were rare and fun DWs, they were large and bulky in kitchens but had great capacity, cleaned great but were a PITA to load, LOL.

I never understood how this thing worked although I first saw one at the Beltsville museum loft and should have asked then:

Maytag Top Load RR DW

There were two different detergent dispenser designs, both actually only had one cup that opened automatically, the earlier one also had a pre-wash cup to help you measure the detergent for the pre-wash, neither dispenser design was very reliable although the 2nd one was better.

 

We will be dragging out our MT RR TL portable [ along with other portable DWs ] to use to wash dishes at the convention dinner on Saturday, hopefully both you guys will be here to use it.
