Maytag Wringer Washer N2L

I just bought a maytag wringer washer serial # L376333T and was hopping someone on here can tell me the year when it was made. It is not in working order I think the traney is frozen. I can pull the pulley by hand but then it stops and is hard to pull. I would like to restore it and get it in working order.

Hi Earl

If you type "decoding" into the search bar, you'll find a decoder. The letters in the serial # represents the month and year built.
Also, if you type into the search bar "moving a maytag" you'll find Larry's thread that goes into a total restoration, that includes the transmission (power unit) ect, with detailed photos.

Thanks for you help. I looked at Larry's thread and have to get busy on mine. I am glad he only paid $25.00 for his I paid $55.00 for mine and was told it would work. In time and the funds I will get her going again. I also have a Dexter Quick twin and a grey ghost but they are in very sad shape.

You can find working Maytag wringers for anywhere from $25.00 to $500.00. I'm glad I only paid $25.00 too! I had to spend a lot more $$ before I had a working model. But no where near $500.00! I also had to do a lot of things 2 or 3 times before I got it figured out. Let me know if you need any help as I've had mine completely apart and back together 3 times! I almost gave up a couple of times but now I'm glad I didn't.

I've basically retired my front loader and have been using the E2LP as the daily driver for 7 months now. It works like a charm every time. No water OR oil leaks!

I never noticed this as a kid but the wringer doesn't extract nearly as much water as a high speed spin. Some folks run their wash through a spin cycle to extract more water before using the dryer. I solved that issue by going back to a clothes line in the yard. That way, instead of using more energy to dry clothes, I'm using none at all. Except for the sun's of course.

Thanks Larry, I have bought a n2l off ebay back in 2005. I paid $150.00 and they delivered it to me. The add stated it had only been used 20 times if I remember right it was made in 1963. Through lifes travels I lost it and the speed queen I had. So I am starting over again. I have seen others on ebay but they are to far away. I haven't gotten into it yet I am going to shortly. If I need your help I will let ya no. And I always have hang my cloths out side to dry in the summer.

I'd say $55.00 is a good price for a washer in that condition. It won't take much to get the power unit in shape. There's really not much to them. Clean it and refill with 90 wt.oil. If you get inside and some is big time broken, just get a used one and swap it out.

The agitator looks nice. Can you remove it? Does the motor work or is the tranny too frozen up? When mine would seize, the motor would quickly overheat and shut itself off.

They're FUN machines though!

This is the one that I lost. the one that I am going to restore is in fairly good shape. I noticed the wringer doesn't have the tray that catches the water. I think I can make one.. The agitator does come out, The motor does work but the tranny is to frozen. I took the motor off to see. I need to get the tool to get the machine apart.

That also looks exactly like mine. It was originally my grandmothers and still works and looks perfect.
