Amazingly odd annual celebration in a small town in Greece.

Pagan fertility festivals have been around a long long time. Early Christians usurped these festivals for their Easter celebrations. They did the same thing with pagan winter solstice festivals (for Christmas).

When I was about 15 a group of friends and I started building a huge snowman in Sequoia Nat'l Park and wound up building a snow penis, complete with veins and nuts. It was funny watching skiiers and tourists do double-takes trying to figure out what it was. But we later regretted it. Lewd and pointless, especially in such a beautiful place.

Great website BTW. Did you catch the quiz on James Bond?

Oh God, imagine if a town in the US did this? And what's wrong with worshiping a penis????

It would be most interesting if someone made a phallus shaped agitator for a washing machine.

Our resident expert in

things Greek is moving house at the moment, and is not on-line at the moment. However, we talked last night on the phone, and he says "hello."

hahahahha

Guys, believe it or not, this is a very very very old traditional festival and it takes part at "Tirnavos", a very small town near Larissa (another small city).
I want to visit the festival but I dont have free time to go :(

Expect the "view" of the festival, there are loooottt of strange foods that you can taste!

If you can visit Greece one week before Easter go to this festival!!

A Greek,
John

I'd like to learn some of the dirty songs they sing so I can sing them to Helen LOL.

After all, Helen is a Greek name so it fits (pun intended).
