Memorial Day

As a tastefully decorated Vietnam Combat Veteran, I get a little contemplative on Memorial Day weekend. Here is the simple display I put out each year.

...but on Sunday

I divide the weekend by slipping up to the lake in Minnesota Friday to get my sailboat ready for the season. I needed to do a little mend on the rudder so I wouldn't worry about my sister using it during my absence.

Hey! another sailor! I've got a Hobie Wave Cat that I spent time on this Memorial day. Down at a campground in Deltaville this weekend, I accidentally became the resident sailing consultant. After a few other sailors noticed me rigging up my boat, they started asking me about rigging changes and other tweaks to their boats, and even took me for a few rides after we got them going. Seems like the high fuel prices are making people dig out their old sailboats that were sitting in mothballs for years and re-discovering how fun they are!

Who makes your boat? It looks a lot like a Catalina. I like your Memorial day display, that's really good (just make sure someone doesn't steal that rifle from your front lawn!) I saw lots of American flags this year around my own neighborhood!

Sailing

We keep four sailboats and a rowboat on site and can sail 4 lakes from our dock. Mine is a Dolphin that is no longer manufactured. Click the link for a short video of it rigged and underway.
