While the cabinet goes off to the body shop to get painted in either pink or turquoise, I'll get to work on the transmission. Since transmission fluid is so expensive from Maytag, will Frigidaire or Ace fluid work?

I am not sure what the oil weight for other washer brands you listed above (if my memory is correct, they are usually 90). I do know it is quite important to use the Maytag oil (much thicker, more denser)...if it is too light the tranny may knock while washing.

yuck.. what a mess they can be.. but a good cleaning and a new o ring seal and new oil and youll be just fine.. the tag oil is really heavy and thick but thats what they need and the o ring seal is easy to do too so good luck but i know youll do just fine

Rich, it is really not as bad as it looks. A lot of dawn dish detergent and elbow grease and you will have no more tranny oil after that. The O-ring change out is easy. Just make sure when you open the transmission up that you get all the gunk out of it before filling it up with new oil. I usually use mineral spirits in a sprayer or spray bottle and just keep rinsing the inner parts until the are all clean, the dry it and put the new 90 weight oil back in to keep anything from rusting if it is humid out. It helps if you have someone to hold the transmission in place while you put the oil back in, but you can do it alone.

You will need a new brake package. Dont put that one back on.

good luck

Steve
