I found this Mexican detergent test, which rates most brands sold south of the border, including some US made products. Test were made with the recommended amount of detergent as per the package instructions, 20 °C water (68 °F), in identical washers with a 10 minute agitation wash, a 4.5 kg load, and a water hardness of 206 mg/l. It even mentions some detergents mention a "practitaza", which was not included in the package!

Test results are order from better to worst, e.g., MB (Muy Bueno, or Very Good), B (Bueno, or Good), R (Regular, or Average), to P (Pobre, or Poor).

Upper columns are the stains: Spinach; Coffe, Tomato Sauce, Hot (spicey) Sauce, Dirt, Grease, followed by Clothes Wear, Color Run, Cost per 4.5 kg wash, Consumer Information, Global Quality Evaluation.

Lower columns below are the materials: Cotton, Polyester/Cotton, Cotton, Cotton, Polyester/Cotton, and so on.

Overall Winner: ARIEL OXIAZUL MAX BAJA ESPUMA. Worst rated VIVA PERLAS ACTIVAS.

I hope you enjoy it.

I love detergent tests---even the ones I can't read. Thanks for posting it, Emilio!
My favorite Mexican detergent has been Ariel Oxi Azul Max, but not the low-sudsing variety, mainly because I haven't seen it anywhere.

Emilio: What does "con blanqueador" mean? I tried to use a translator, but it said "with launderer," which doesn't seem correct.

I noticed there were several versions of Ariel, and the one rated second was Ariel Oxi Azul Max con blanqueador.

I thought that might be what it meant, but I've never seen that version of Ariel in the stores or online. Plus, I thought since it already had Oxi-Azul Max that it wouldn't also have bleach.

I've only ever seen two kinds of Ariel; one in a green box and the Oxi-Azul Max version (which replaced Oxi-Azul) in the blue bag.

Frigilux, I am glad you liked the test. Supersuds is correct, "con blanqueador" means "with bleach".

Wear tests were evaluated after 14 washes. Color run tests were evaluated after 5 washes, with red and green clothes. Cleaning performance was evaluated with all cotton and 60/40 cotton polyester blends.

Thank you Emilio for posting that! Even though I know very little of the spanish language I can make out quite a lot of that. I'm glad to see Foca is rated relatively high compared to the other detergents that I can get here, with the exception of Ariel which is #1. I like Foca because it has a very mild, clean, non-flowery type scent. It produces lots of suds in the wash and seems to have a very clear rinse, which is my goal for a clean wash in a top loader. It seems to do really well on whites if you use very hot water.

I haven't tried some of the other detergents listed here, but I have to agree about the Ariel OxyAzul...it is a fabulous detergent, and does a brilliant job on clothes, even with just 3 or 4 tbsp for a full load.

Although I have a Maytag TL I prefer to use HE detergents. After reading this test I went to the store and bought a 5 kg (12,5 lb) bag of Ariel OxiAzul Max, manufactured locally. It cost me the equivalent of US$ 10, or even less, in local currency or course.

I'll take a picture of the bag and try to post it. I'll do a trial wash and report back on results.

I will also post a picture of some other liquid detergents I use, also HE, for black clothes and for deep colored clothes. I can't take pictures of all the detergents I use because I usually transfer the detergent to plastic containers and throw the original package.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures, I just don't know how to properly downsize pictures without getting the mosaic effect.

Emilio--- I use Woolite For Dark Colors, too. The U.S. bottle looks different. It's very sudsy and smells great. Another good detergent for black clothing is Cheer For Dark Colors.

Next to SA8, which I use for white, highly-stained kitchen linens, Ariel Oxi-Azul Max is my favorite detergent, mostly because of the scent.

Thanks for posting photos----let's see some of your Maytag!

Liquid bleach and Oxypower

Liquid bleach is "specially formulated" to be used on white clothes. I always found this a rather silly remark.

Thor,

Thanks for the review and the pics.

Could you please post a pic of Ariel Bajaespuma? It's not available in my area, and I'd like to see what a bag looks like so I can spot it more quickly on my regular checks at the local Mexican markets.

Ariel baja espuma

Sudsmaster, tomorrow will purchase a bag of Ariel baja espuma (or Ariel Low Suds). I will then immediately post a picture of the bag.

ACE Miniespuma con blanqueador

Here's the ACE Miniespuma con blanqueador, which I have transferred to the dosing can. It is the local equivalent to Tide with bleach. An excellent performer for whites.
