I have a 2006 GE microwave recently the breaker is tripping when I start it. We opend it up and found a blown fuse. Which we replaced. Worked fine for a few days
( I have it on a 20 amp breaker with 1 light and my Imac ) Light was off and computer was sleeping.

Monday morn at 4:45 am Opend door and off went the breaker again. So grabbed the extension cord
to move to another outlet.. and crap same thing.
So opned it up fuse is fine.. Googled issue and top of search was GE blows breaker when door is opend.
Says door switches are shot.
Checked with Mulitmeter one switch showes continuity all the time it will read higher with door open and alittle lower with it closed. The other 1 show no reading closed door and then continuity door open .
I'm not really sure which way the multi meter read if the door was open or closed.
There should be no reading one way or the other on the 1st switch correct?
closed door no reading and continuity with door open. On both switches. Correct?

I really hate the touch panel only microwaves.

I'm using one a renter left and don't like the touch pad.
I tried to be clear on the issue.
Sorry if I'm not.

Way I fixed mine was remove and thoroughly insulate one of the wires from that switch. Yeah, internet told me to, verified with schematic inside.

Ran 36 yrs before it went bad.  What's a bit odd is, the power to operate the uwave goes through the other two which seldom fail despite the same number of actuations.

I'd be careful

jury rigging one of these newer inexpensive ones. Not worth risking fire or electrocution. For a hundred bucks or so, pitch it out and get a new one.
There have even been recalls on some.
GE had some fires even on some brand new OTR models about 8 years back or so.
I think the builders installed them and left the protective film on the touch pads, because ours was starting up on it's own until I removed it. Good thing we were home to catch it.

Thank you for the confirmation.. switches

There are 2 that we can see. It is a problem that has been developing for a while.
Every so often the breaker would pop with the light on and wave running.

Hubs thinks we could spent the 80.00 bucks and still have the problem.

Wowzer I guess we are lucky we haven't had a fire.

This wave was over 300.00 new in 06. I didn't consider it to be a cheap appliance. Nor the most expensive.
But it has earned it's keep. It was used a lot every day.
12 years of service isn't bad on a 300.00 investment

Recommendations on a reliable brand??? If there is one better than others?
