Is it just me, or does the sound of an older microwave intrigue other members as it does me?

Plugging in the cord, punching in the numbers then hitting Start and hearing: Katoooooooooooooooooooooooom! Then: Doooooooooooooooom! As the magnetron cycles on and off.

There's just something about the low hum of the elderly generation of microwaves that is just so nice.

My 1983 GE started screeching a month ago. An hour disassembly and oil on the stirrer motor fixed that.

But yeah I like how those big transformers growled.

Back in the 90's our Litton microwave started humming like a loud alarm clock. It was really loud. We took it in to have it serviced and it was only $35.00 to repair.
I asked what was wrong with it, the guy said it needed a diode replaced. I said a diode can make all that noise? He said "You would too if you had 25,000 volts running through you!.

We still have that oven in the garage in storage. Bought in 1975.
