microwave surface

Hi guys

I found A old Microwave Oven(early 80's or late 70's) It would look quite nice except for several scratchs on the top and the sides...

Since it's a microwave Oven is it safe to paint it or cover it with some thing to give a newlike finish...

suggestions?

The microwaves are contained inside the oven. Microwaves are about the size (thickness) of a pencil. All pathways in which the microwaves trael have to contain some sort of metal covering or screen to contain the waves. Notice the mesh in the oven glass.
