Microwave

The paint on my microwave on the carousel is peeling and flaking off. Can someone suggest a good appliance paint? I've been told NOT to use anything with metal, lead or aluminum in it, but basically a good latex paint.

There's special microwave oven cavity paint available at most appliance parts places. It comes in several colours to match common models. There are those who say that any good enamel can be used, but I'm no expert on that question. Here's a link to one parts company's page for the white paint:

There are several different shades of microwave cavity paint available to match. Having done the job for customers, I can say that there are a few points to it...

Lightly sand and clean area to remove loose paint and residue. COVER the vent areas where air passes thru so that paint mist/spray won't get to the mag and moisture sensors if any and foul them. Same goes for the mica waveguide and/or plastic stirrer cover. It seams almost silly for me to have to say this stuff, BUT... You'd be surprised the avoidable disasters customers have brought me to fix after trying it themselves just because God gave them opposable fingers with the ability to hold a spray can...

What is the difference

Between pain and enamel? I never did figure that one out.
My dictionary defines enamel as a "durable" paint. OK, that's cool. So are all durable paints enamels? Or is there a secondary aspect to the matter.
Kinda neat things, really - microwaves, I mean. Only genuine vacuum tube based application left in my house.

Well with paints I have dealt with: Latex or Oil Based paints come in different finishes. They start out with flat finish, which will come off with some serious washing, next is semi gloss, which is a little bit more durable. Oh by the way flat and semi gloss hide a lot of imperfections on walls. Then it goes to glossy, a little bit more durable, then onto enamel finish. This will usually leave a shinny very durable surface. You will see imperfections more but it is a hard cleanable surface. Hope this helps.
