Anyone got one or comments about same? I'm looking for a 1936-1938 model and am wondering what breaks on them. Do they still have the magnetic unloader that late, and if so is it reliable?

Thanks,
Chris

I had a '39 Westy fridge that never had a problem until it just up and died a few months ago after nearly 70 years of continuous operation. I don't know from "magnetic unloaders" but decided the fridge needed repair beyond my capabilities when I bypassed the relay and the compressor still didn't kick in.

Yep, that's at least a late-40s model. Betcha if they plugged it in it'd kick right up and run another 60 years.

1930's Westinghouge fridges

Chris,

I don't know what you want anyone to say. They're fine fridges. I have seen some SO2 units and some R12 units. Both can work fine. The cold controls can go bad or the relays. There's not much else in them.

Ssssssshhhhuuussssssssshhhhhhhhhhhh!

That one is about 40 minutes from my house and I'm most significantly tempted! So I'm doing my research to see what can or may break on it before I bring home another one.

Will, that fridge is nearly identical to the '39 Westy I had. I think it's a little larger, and mine had the badge on the cabinet door. It was a great fridge, very quiet running, but I still don't think I'd cough up $500 to replace it. Whoever might be willing to pay that amount will for sure end up with a nice machine though.
